The plan is to make one song,
recording a bunch of people throughout South Africa
Constantly communicating whilst on the road
upload the stuff to the cloud
having producers contineously working on it Johannesburg
come back to us at the end of the week, wrap it up
[SPOEK MATHAMBO'S FIRST MUSICAL COLLABORATION WITH SOUTH AFRICAN CULTURES AND TRIBES]
[EPISODE 2 CAPTURING THE SOUNDS OF THE KHOISAN]
I've never experienced Khoisan culture so it was cool to
take away all the myths
of hearing about these people that, you know
are the first people of this country
and to get closer to who they are
[SPOEK MATHAMBO ARTIST MUSICIAN, PRODUCER] and how similar things are as opposed to the difference.
it was their anual cultural day
where they explore a lot of new music and old muisc that the tribe makes
their practices, their culture...
it was weird to hear on that sound system
but people wern't booing or minding, they wern't fussy
about the sound quality
they were enjoying something really amazing, something cool.
a group of girls also sang and people started singing the song
there was an uplifting vibe.
The music that you make is beautiful
we're going to mix it and then send it back
and plus it's great to meet your people singing the songs
and to meet the children as well
keeping the songs and the language going
Mash!
How are you doing?
Can you hear this?
So it would be cool if we could get a rhythm track from this already
from you guys?
Yeah cool!
we got on back to Andrea to her house
she's playing two songs for us
that she learnt from her aunts and uncles.
Just old great songs and she played her brand new mouth bow
that she just made.
When she sings she is thinking about her parents and the people who've passed away
that's why she cries when she sings.
We're in Bloemfontein, getting ready to upload the stuff to the cloud
and we're off to Durban tomorrow
so everything's coming together beautifully.
