Why would an attorney reject my criminal case? I'm Steve Kramer
of the Kramer Law Firm. I'm a Florida criminal defense
attorney and the question is why would an attorney turn away your
case? Well, the first most obvious answer is you might have
been arrested but the state decided not to press charges
against you. Now, the good thing is sometimes if you
hire an attorney after you've been arrested, before charges
have been filed, then that attorney can get those charges
dropped before they're formally filed in what's called an
"information." But, sometimes it happens that the state - the
police officer - arrests you and the state just drops the thing
immediately and files a "no information." And that's when
they dismiss it immediately before even filing against you.
Then next reason we might reject your case is unrealistic
expectations. Now usually by the time you see me the die has been
cast, you've already made your confessions, your statements,
the evidence has been obtained. And we've got what we've got to
work with. Whatever you bring us is what we've got to work with.
And usually in our consultation, I'm going to tell you where I
think we stand and what's going to happen. And if we're on the
same page and you like what I say, and you believe what I can
do for you then we're going to have a great relationship. But
occasionally, some people have unrealistic expectations. They
may think their case is better than it is and sometimes it's
just not going to work. We're going to try our hardest with
what you bring to us though. The third reason that we might turn
away your case is that we don't have sufficient time to prepare.
And this is really important because we can do a lot more for
your case when you hire us before the arraignment then when
you hire us the evening of trial, right? Because we won't
have time to prepare for a trial properly. And the only way we
know how to do cases here is the right way. And we want to make
sure that we do it the right way. And if you hire us right
before trial or too late in the case then we might not be able
to take your case. But I'd be glad to sit down with you and
discuss these options with you. The bottom line is you're
probably watching this video because you're dealing with
these issues, they're probably weighing very heavily on your
mind, and we deal with this stuff every day. So if you have
any questions, give me a call. I'd love to talk to you about
your case and discuss how we can help you. Also, if you're
