Dine out more often with a beautiful barbecue grilling station
To get started you will need the following tools and materials
a string line
square
hammer and chisel
safety glasses and work gloves
you will also need
50 corner blocks
21 york blocks
12 dublin blocks
5 wall caps
2 outdoor countertops that are 24 by 32 inches
and 2 tubes of masonry adhesive
Building a barbecue grilling station is easy and fun
this project demonstrates how to build on a hard level surface such as
concrete or pavers
using a grill that is 39 inches wide
To begin, mark a line for the location of your grilling station
then place 4 corner blocks
and 2 York blocks
to create a modified post
Use a square to position the blocks
on the second course place 3 corner blocks so that they overlap the
blocks beneath them
before placing the next corner block you will need to remove the raised ring
from the York block on the first course
next split a dublin end split block
placing the large piece so that the raised rings are facing down and the split side
is against the corner block
save the smaller piece for the end of this course
using a preset patterns build the first 2 courses of the wall panel
ending with a corner block
now let's start the second post
Place 3 corner blocks and one York block
use a square to position the blocks
place the small piece that you saved from the Dublin End-Split Block on the second course
place the corner blocks around the post
before placing the final corner block you will need to remove the raised rings
from the York block on the first course
using the same alternating patterns to offset the vertical seams
you can now build up 3 additional courses
see how to sheet #290 for more information
the wall panels to be finished one of course lower than the posts
to allow for movement of the hood
add one more course to both posts by placing 5 corner blocks on top of each post
now you're ready for wall caps
you can choose to secure them in place with a bead of masonry adhesive
along both sides of the raised rings and
between the wall caps
this will increase the wall's strength and prevent the caps from being moved out of position.
Choose a counter top to fit your design
natural stone countertops can be cut to size by your local hardscape dealer
Secure your counter tops in place with a bead of masonry adhesive
along the outer edge of each corner block
Now you are ready to Fire up the Grill!
whether your grill is a large or small you can easily create a barbecue grilling station in just a few hours
