Hi, I'm Lauren Bradley and I'm here with Expert Village. I'm going to talk to you today about
couture. Couture, a French word spelled c o u t u r e. I'm a designer. I'm a fashion
designer. I make clothing, one of a kind pieces mostly, for a specific situation or myself
or a client. So I guess I'm close to couture but we'll go over the exact definition and
the exact history. Some may argue that it really isn't technically couture because it
comes with a lot of technicalities. Back when the concept was developed in France, I would
say that couture was very specific. It meant only one thing and if you didn't have the
prerequisites it wasn't couture. But, I think today there is a lot of accessibility or a
lot of watering down of the concept. So a lot of times you'll see the word being used
to cover a more broad spectrum of an idea. But it did really originate from one kernel
of an exact definition and that's what we'll talk about today.
