I call this the Flight into Egypt page. This is the page where Queen Hekima explains why
the baby king’s family might not have lots of gold, and might need it for food or lodging.
In the novel “The Greatest Story Ever Told” Joseph used the gift of gold to pay for the
family’s escape to Egypt.
So I wanted the illustration on this page to reference imagery from Flight into Egypt
artwork
A very popular image is Joseph leading a donkey carrying Mary and Jesus.
That event is foreshadowed here. A man leading a donkey with a woman riding on it.
One painting I have always loved is Rest on the Flight into Egypt by Gerard David. In
the foreground there is Mary resting and feeding grapes to Jesus. In the background, there
is Joseph using his staff to get fruit from the tree
So I had the illustrator draw something similar, and I made it so you can have him swat at
a tree with a staff, just like Joseph.
