I had a problem with the frostbite on my feet.
It was miserable.
I couldn't go out.
For instance, if I went to a night football game where my
son was playing, or I'd go with some of the neighbor guys
and watch the local team play, my feet would just
be giving me fits.
And I thought it was just maybe some poor circulation.
I had no idea I had frostbite.
In fact, I even worked high school and college football as
an official, and night games would drive me up the wall
because I thought I had bad circulation.
And I was stamping my feet and everything else out there on
the field trying to get some feeling back in my feet.
And it wasn't until 1990, I would say, that it came to the
surface that those people that were up at the reservoir have
a frostbite problem.
And the VA was looking into it.
And it was the early '90s there that they finally found
out that the frostbite was a combat injury.
