Ruben Andriasyan, artistic director of the theatre, People's Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Recently, in the last decade, we have come to Moscow, as far as possible, on a regular basis. The last time when we were on tour was in 2005. But always - with the help of Russia.
That was in 2005, and so it is today. And the idea that Russia continues to think about the fate of their compatriots in the near abroad pleases us.
This is true, it is a really great support for us.
This is about performances and festivals such as the Festival in St. Petersburg, which regularly takes place, of the CIS and Baltic countries.
Of course, I would like to have more such contacts.
For us, a trip to Moscow, meeting with you, with the Moscow audience, is an opportunity to check who we are and where we are from, where we are going, what we bring with us, because this kind of closure, in which we find ourselves - it scares us.
We really want to test ourselves at such a high level as the Moscow audience.
As for the repertoire that we brought...
Each theatre, during such a significant tour, chooses a repertoire that would more fully reflect the face of today's theatre. We have brought this repertoire.
You can think of it as an act of insolence, or as an act of adherence to traditions, but we are opening our performances on the stage of the Art Theatre with "Cherry Orchard" - the performance the opening night of which for the first time took place on that stage.
Perhaps this is an act of our arrogance, to some extent.
I hope that you, yourself, will be able to determine what is good and what is wrong in our decision.
We brought a very diverse repertoire. For example, modern Russian drama is represented by the play "Don" by Grishkovets.
We have brought, in addition, such performances as a play by Schmitt, thank God, it is not being performed in Moscow, "A Hotel of Two Worlds".
There is a play which was staged by our former actor who is an Honoured Artist of Russia, an actor, director, produce, screenwriter now - Vladimir Yeryomin; in his own stage version the play is called "The Visit of a Lady", it is well -known as"The Visit of an Old Lady" by Dürrenmatt.
Here are four performances that we have brought, and we want to show them to you as the way we live today.
