Welcome dear friends
I invite all of you to the fourth volume of Manchadi
I have come with four folk stories that will make you laugh your heart full
and three interesting songs
Are you happy?
The first number is a story from Tamil
One day a goat from the country side reached the woods
but soon came a lion
Who would have scared? Goat or the lion?
Come lets see the story
Once a goat from a village lost his way and reached a forest
The goat was surprised seeing the greenery of the woods
How beautiful is this forest, and plenty of grass too
Then why do these people scare the goats telling forest..forest!
‘Oh! I cannot move, let me go and sit in that cave’
After some time, the lion who owned the cave reached there
‘Who is that, dared to enter my den?’
‘Which animal is it? I have not seen it before in this forest.’
The lion was scared seeing the figure of the goat
‘Better, I shall keep away’
‘Who is in my den?’
‘Any way, I will die let me play a trick’
‘Who are you to ask me?’
No body has talked to me like that before. It seems he is not stupid
I am Lion, the king of the forest
Get out from my den now..
Oh is it you the lion who call yourself the king of the forest
If you are the king, I am the emperor
The king of all forests
Indeed I was waiting for you..
Hearing that the lion ran away
But a Jackal was seeing all the drama
The jackal also ran after the lion to know the truth
Your majesty! Will you please stop for a while?
Where are you running out of panic?
O!yeah! its good I saw you Have you seen the emperor before?
The emperor?
Yeah! Such a creature is sitting in my den
I can no more rule this jungle
Let me find any other forest without a king
This lion has only the build, but no brain
Your majesty I think somebody has tricked you
I will go and find out the truth
Thinks he is brave go and find out, fool
The jackal ran to the cave
Seeing the foot marks he identified the animal at once
(Laughs..)
Your majesty, a goat is inside your den
A goat? How do you know it?
I have brought a number of goats stolen from the village
Please come without any fear if you are scared you can hide behind me
How can I, the king of the forest, hide behind a silly jackal, shame…
Your majesty let’s tie our tails together
if that creature wants let him eat me first
please come
Thus tying their tails together, the Lion and the jackal reached the cave
When the goat saw the lion and the jackal together, he turned panic
But when he saw that their tails are tied, he understood the whole story
O! the Lion has come back with the courage of that jackal
I will show him
(Laughs..)
When did you arrive, dear emperor
I have been waiting for you for a long time dear friend
But anyway you have brought the lion, that’s enough
You cheat..
You are the real jackal
when I asked you for a lion to eat, you have brought the king himself
Why are you stuck
Throw that old lion to me, or should I come out
Hearing this the lion ran away crying aloud
what to tell about jackal’s fate?
(Laughs...)

Next is a story from the northern states
Once a pious man saved a tiger
But the tiger wanted to eat him
Then came a cunning savior
Don’t you want to know what he did
come lets see the story
Once a tiger fell in a hunter’s trap
Shall I trick him and escape
What is this? A tiger praying?
O man, you have a message from God you may please accept it
A message from God
Yeah! I got enlightenment from God
It revealed me that a poor man would come to me
and that I should pass the message to him
and that man is you
then come on, tell me the message soon
Sure, I will tell you
But get me out of this cage
to get you out,
then sure, you will eat me
But Tiger insisted that he would tell him the message
only if the man got him out
At last the man opened the cage and got him out
Now tell, what’s the message?
God’s message says that you should be my food
You cruel beast,
are you eating me who let you free
There is no point telling such things
You are my food and I am hungry
When the man pleaded, the tiger gave him a reprieve
Ok, we will ask opinions of three persons
if any one tells that you should not be killed
I will let you free
The tiger and the man went searching for mediators
I saved this tiger from the hunter’s cage
but after escape he wants to eat me
Tell me is it fair?
No doubt, it’s fair
These men make us do all the work
beat and kick
and when we get sick they throw us out
They are very unkind
He should be eaten
He went along with tiger in search of next person
Tiger’s argument is just
Men are very cruel
A man killed my wife
Then he sold her skin and made money
You should definitely eat this man
They went in search of the next mediator
When the jackal heard the man’s story,
he understood the seriousness of the issue
I don’t get what you are saying
So when the man was in the cage, tiger came that way
Nonsense
I was in the cage
Oh I see
so this man was praying
When he opened his yes he saw you, isn’t so..
Rubbish!
I was praying in the cage..
Oh yes, yes... tiger was in the cage
But how did you reach here?
The jackal asked again as if he did not understand anything
You fool
didn’t you understand anything I told
There is some problem
Shall we go to the place where it happened
Yes, we will go
The tiger, jackal and the man thus reached the cage
Now let me see how things happened
Let this man get into the cage
and tiger in position where he was praying
How many times should I tell this fool
that was inside the cage
How is it possible?
How can the tiger get into the cage?
Alas! you are a donkey!
This way, did you understand now
Yea..agreed
Now you close the cage
Let me see how you have opened it
Shall I open the cage now!
Dear man
I have never seen a real fool like you
Run and escape at once
Hearing this
the villager ran for his life without thanking the jackal
Dear tiger,
now you can pray as you wish

Friends, have you gone for a wedding?
I know you had the tasty meal too
Can you tell how a tiger’s marriage would be?
Here’s a tale on a tiger’s marriage
this story is from the north eastern states
A priest, on the way to his village through a forest
fell in front of a tiger
But the tiger felt sympathy for the priest
Where are you going dear grandpa
Dear son,
I am returning after attending a marriage..
Marriage?
What do you mean by it?
Marriage happens when male and female species begin to live together
Is it so?
Then I too want to marry, grandpa
I have to trick him, if I have to save my life
Okay
come to my home after two days
I will arrange your marriage with a beautiful tigress
As soon as the priest reached home
he called all his friends in the village
made a big cage
and waited for the tiger to come
Grandpa
O grandpa...
I have come
But the scared priest did not come out of his home
O! have you come
I am chanting certain mantras for the marriage
Get into cage outside
and lie down, closing the door
This is a ceremony of the marriage
So what grandpa
I will get into the cage right now
I didn’t know that I had to struggle a lot to get married
Alas....
Alas....Alas....
I don’t want any marriage
I will die right now
Alas...........
Help! Help!
Might be a tiger who does not know swimming
let me save him
You have saved my life
I want to marry you
Only you
I agree
I am very happy now
Everything happened because of the mantras of that priest
I got you just because he had send me on a cage
Let’s go and seek grandpa’s blessings
Grandpa
O! grandpa
Alas!
Didn’t that tiger die
He has come back with another one to catch me
Grandpa
O! grandpa..
Come out soon
I got married because of your blessings
I have come with my wife
Please give your blessings to us, grandpa
Grandpa is not well my dear
I too feel happy
I give all my blessings to you
You can place your token and leave
God saved me
All ended like the blind man throwing stones at the mango tree

Folk songs and stories
And now a folk story from Kerala
Undan and Undi
Undan and Undi made rice cakes
But there came another one to eat them
a leopard
Would a leopard eat rice cakes
lets see
Once upon a time, a short couple lived in a village
Undan and Undi
Undan was a lazy bug
while Undi was a foodie
One day when Undi arose from sleep
she smelled the aroma of rice cakes from the neighbourhood
She could not resist the temptation
O god!
My fate decrees to smell the rice cakes
Let them make the rice cakes
when they finish cooking we will go there
Any way they will give us at least two rice cakes
Only two rice cakes!
Who wants it!
I don’t want to leave it like that
I also know to make rice cakes
How come?
I will bring things from my home
You go to the forest and fetch some fire wood
You bring the things first
we will go together to fetch the fire wood
Thus Undi went to her home and brought rice, jaggery and ghee
Undan took Undi along with him and went to the forest to get wood
They picked up all the dry wood and made two big bundles
Lift this bundle
I will make a hundred rice cakes with this firewood
I also long to eat the rice cakes
Then they realised a problem
who shall lift the bundle on Undan’s head
Help, help
Don’t be afraid
I heard everything you said
I shall lift the bundle
But you should give me ten rice cakes
What do you say?
Undan and Undi agreed to the leopard without finding any other way out
Thus Undan and Undi returned home with the firewood
The insatiable Undi
at once prepared bater mixing rice flour, jaggery and plantain
and cooked the rice cakes
Sixteen rice cakes in total
Ten for the leopard
Still we have six
Three for me and three for you
Only three!
Very tasty
shall we eat two more!
Its not the leopard who made this rice cakes
After eating their part
Undan and Undi again looked at the cake pan
Still there is six left
Leopard has only helped to lift the bundle of wood
He deserves only two
That is enough... that is enough
Now two rice cakes left
That’s enough for that leopard
But the insatiable Undi
took one more without Undan knowing it
Undan swallowed the remaining one hiding from Undi
The dusk fell
and Undan and Undi began to panic
What shall we do when the Leopard comes?
Don’t worry
we will chase away that leopard
The leopard came when the night fell
Is any body here?
Where is my rice cake?
Come out
Are you hiding after tricking me
I will show you now
Alaaas...!
Haughty ones
are you hiding in the ceiling
Help, water..water
I am tired..
Help! Snake..snake
Look dear, our idea has worked
The leopard has fallen in the well
Undan and Undi rushed down to see the leopard in the well
But they slipped on the oil they had poured near the well
and fell into it
Help...help..
See, they fell into the ditch they themselves made
