My name is Melissa Powell and I'm with Expert Village. We're going to continue talking about
some basic player mistakes that new players, to the game of Texas Holdem, make. Another
mistake that players can typically make is playing too much poker. Sometimes, it's just
best to take a break. It's really important that you have patience and that you commit
to playing the game but if you keep losing and you get frustrated, it's not a good way
to enter the game. It's, sometimes, better to just cash out, take a break, walk away.
Get a drink, relax, sit down, play a different game but don't spend all your time just playing
poker. You'll have a tendency to get frustrated and angry and you don't make the best decisions,
under those circumstances. Because poker is, sometimes, played for fun but a lot of times,
obviously at casinos, it's played for money, you have to make sure you're in your best
mind frame and best focus, when you do play the game. Another problem that players typically
have, when they're playing the game of poker, is drinking alcohol. Now, it's ok to drink
and I think it's fine sometimes, especially when you're in the casinos, you get drinks
for free but you do want to be careful, especially as a new player, that you don't let alcohol
affect the way that you're playing the game. Focus, commitment and patience are some of
the most important elements of playing poker and if you're drinking a lot, it's not going
to help you stay focused, so I suggest you keep a moderate balance. Play the game, take
a break when you need to and don't overdo it with alcohol.
