>> Kyle: Hey!
Hey!
Before I start, I'm going to mention that writing this speech was really difficult 'cause
some of you kept bugging me on Facebook............ You know who you are. Well, there is a reason
we're here today!
Right now, I see a huge group of students in front of me. It's hard to think that three
years ago, none of us had even imagined that we'd be here today. Lots of us didn't even
know last week. And, for the past three years, we've all been working towards a common goal-to
get as much information as we can before the hard part begins. We were given a relatively
protective environment to do this, and we've used this to our advantage.
I can remember how long it took for me to get an inter-district transfer from Hayward
Unified to New Haven. When I got in, I felt so fortunate. Right away at Barnard, however,
I realized that I didn't know anyone at my new school. I started stressing out about
how I'd be a loner, and how no one would like me. But the first day I walked in (even though
some kids knew each other from Hillview, Emmanuelle, and Searles), there were so many people, everyone
was feeling nervous. It was easy to get lost in the crowd of kids. Eventually, we started
blending in and getting to know each other better. We learned how to just chill.
Then they told us that we were going to merge schools. The same bubbling anxiety came up.
Although, it was easier this time around because we had already gone through all of this hype
already. It's kind of interesting that after only two years, we know each other better
than we know some of our family members. We acted as a team and helped each other to get
to this point.
Beyond that, I want to thank all the teachers and staff members who guide us, teach us,
and clean up after us. They took care of us, and, in general, have steered us in the right
direction for the rest of our lives.
I also thank all of my friends and family here right now. You guys have been with me
every step along the way, and you all deserve more credit than I can give you. It would
be great if I could talk a paragraph on each and every one of you, but there's so many
of you out there and too much that you do for me to fit on paper. (I'll get to you on
Facebook later).
Also, I want to thank all of you in the audience right now, just because you stayed awake for
this long time listening to me talk. We've all come a long way. I think, that just
like we could transition from lots of elementary schools into one middle school, just like
we helped each other through our two schools merging, we can help each other get through
logan. It might even be easier! You have all accomplished a great task, so have some fun
during summer! and congratulations, class of 2010.
