For students and faculty who’ve been away from campus enjoying their summer, here at
Pitt State, we’ve been hard at work. We’ve made some big changes around campus that I’m
sure will be easy to recognize. The first and I think the most visible change
is the exterior part of the Weede Gymnasium. Gone is that old gold energy inefficient skin,
and in is the new silver and black panels. With added insulation under the panels and
a modern material on the exterior of the building, it will save energy, money and give the building
a more modern look. For those students who’ll be staying in
Tanner Hall this semester, you’re getting a one million dollar total renovation to the
interior of the building. Gone is well, pretty much everything. The building was totally
refinished on the inside just as Trout and Bowen have been in previous years. Another
cool feature is the expanded bathrooms to allow for more space and comfort while getting
ready for the day. For students faculty and staff that utilize
Hughes Hall you will be able to see and feel a big difference. The exterior of the building
has had all the windows replaced with more energy efficient ones, as well as a good deal
of masonry work. On the interior, you’ve got a new HVAC system which will help better
manage the heating and air throughout the building.
For Hartman Hall, it will also have some masonry work done on the exterior, as well as the
addition of a new roof. And for those of you wondering where the President’s
Home has gone, no worries, it’s been razed on purpose. Following our goal of sustainability,
several items were saved and have found new life through Habitat for Humanity and SEK
Recycling. Construction on the new University House is scheduled to begin later this year.
So there you have it, some of the changes taking place at Pittsburg State University
to make us more energy efficient while at the same time, enhancing the overall look
of the campus.
