Hi, hope everything's fine with you guys. A great year of 2013 of all vapers.
Today I'm doing a review of the brand new model from Joyetech, the eVic.
Wish is this one that I'm holding right now.
First off, let's take a closer look to the device itself.
Its box and all the contents and after that i'll be back.
Welcome to the eVic close up.
As you can see, the package is identical to the Apple products, it looks like the iPhone box.
So basically it's very similar.
This show some specs, aswell as the Serial number, the EAN product code and a short description.
Inside of the box, let's take the top out like this.
Here we have our eVic device.
It has "eVic" written on the bottom of the main tube, as you can see.
I'll show you the device later on.
I'll get this thing out in order to show you what's inside this box.
Here we have the Software user manual.
It shows how to work with the MVR software.
I'll get to it later.
Here's the device user manual.
Very detailed with all the functions and explains how to operate the device.
It's doesn't have Portuguese language. It has English, Spanish and some other Languages.
It's kind of thick but it's because it has many languages in it.
The outter box have this "EU" sticker which means it's the European version.
The only difference it that this version comes with an European wall adapter.
Up here there's a box with a USB cable, which is a Micro USB cable.
Then a box with the Wall adapter and a small box containing a 18650 battery.
Here you have it, a 18650 battery.
ICR, from Samsung with 2600mAh.
It has a flat top and the bottom is quite scratched by its use.
So it's a unsual battery.
In size, it has almost the same size as a AW 18650.
As you can see here, it's almost the same size, a bit longer.
But nothing major.
The device itself...
Here's the eVic, has I've previously showed.
Has "eVic" written on the bottom, it gathers some fingerprints.
Has we grab it, it's gains some fingerprint.
This has the black area which is the display that i'll show you in action next.
It has a MicroUSB port on the side, so we can charge it, use it as a passthrough or data transfer.
When connect to the computer it will transfer all the data to it.
The data will be stored into the Joyetech software on your computer.
Here's the fire button, it's a clicky button.
And a kind of wheel that allow us to control the up and down settings, it's doesn't turn all the way around.
There's some review that it seems to turn all the way around but in fact it doesnt.
To the left it will go down on the menus and to the right it will go up.
So here's a closer look to it.
it's doesn't make a 360º turn.
It as an attached cone on the top.
It allow to keep the e-juice in there. Which is good, especially for dripping.
It also looks visually better with tanks.
Here's the 510 eGo type connection, with the bottom threads to hold Stardusts and Kanger T3.
You can remove the device head.
As you can see.
The connection is exposed which is good for cleaning it up or replace the head if needed.
Here's the main tube. On the bottom we got this cap.
On the bottom cap there's a vent hole, it has the Joyetech logo on it.
The threads are smooth. It's very lightweight.
It's has this golden spring
And the tube is 18650 ready,
It would be nice if they release a 18500 and a 18350 sized tube so the mod would be shorter.
Maybe that's the point of making the tube detachable.
To set it back up, just attach the device head to the tube.
Then attach the catch-cup/cone on the top.
You can use it without the top cone, but I think it looks better the cone on it.
Then lets place the battery with the positive side up. And after that let's screw the bottom cap back on.
And it's ready.
Now for the menu, there's the fire button on the back side.
Let's click it five times, so it shows the menu.
Let's turn the wheel to the right side, so it goes up and for the left to go down.
There's the Power on option to power the device on.
Then Sleep to turn the device into stand-by mode.
Vapor set... this is the firmware version 1.1.
It brings the version 1.0 that has some differences.
I'll leave some links on the description to some reviews of the eVic v1.0.
Then we have the Standby mode,
We can set the amount of time that we want the screen to light up.
I have mine set to 15 seconds.
After that we have the System feature, which is set to 60 minutes,
In this option we can set the device auto shut down if you're done using it, if we set it to 3 minutes it
it will shut down 3 minutes after the last vape.
5, 10. 30 or 60 minutes.
I've set mine to 60 minutes, because I think it the right amount of time for me.
There's no option on this firmware to set to infinite time without shutting off.
Let's exit this option.
On the menu, on the calendar we have Show Time,
We got the Time, day of the week and date.
We have other options to set the date and time.
The the Puff info, which will allow us to set our puff limit.
I dont think that this feature is useful, but there are some vapers that are trying to quit vaping,
Let's suppose that you would like to set the amount of puff to 150, it will not fire after 150 puffs.
On the puff info we got the Total Puff which show us how much puff did we take since the begining.
So I've taken a total of 4245 puffs on this device.
Exit, then we have the Device setting,
Under it we got Atomizer, it will show us the ohms, I aint got any attached to the device.
But now I will attach my DID into th device, so you can see the reading.
Let's go into the Device settings,
2.0 ohms on my DID.
Next we got the device temperature,
The actual device temperature, it's 20ºC...
Then there's the Temperature alarm, mine is set to 40ºC.
It dont use this option, but if you're willing to use it, there's this option.
Next, is the User info, which holds the info of the owner of the device...
this info is inserted through the computer.
Then the Serial number information.
The firmware version, in this case is the v1.1.
Finally the most important setting, the Vapor set.
On the Vapor Set, it's the most used setting, at least for me.
The first option is the battery.
We can select between 2200mAh and 2600mAh.
In this case I've got a 2600mAh battery on the device, let's select it.
We I use my AW 2000mAh, I use the closest mAh setting which is 2200mAh.
Switch, is where we can select Variable Voltage or Variable Wattage.
In this case let's pick Watts. Then exit this menu.
Now, we'll turn on the device.
It will show the Joyetech logo on boot.
The Time and date...
Also show the resistence on the DID.
The recommend wattage and I'll set this to 6 Watts.
On the right side there's a small icon that show us the battery percentage,
The bars will disappear as we use the battery.
And the number will all decrease.
On the left side there's the amount of puffs taken since the last reset.
And under it, it the remaining amount of puffs that I take until the battery is drained.
So, 1026 puffs with this battery.
Now with the wheel I can set the Watts, increase or decrease the amount of Watts.
In this case, I'll set this at 6 Watts with is atty. And it has a 10 second cut-off.
There it is, the 10 second cut-off.
And if I replace this DID with a Stardust
The device will auto-detect the 2.3 ohm on the stardust,
And it will regulate the Voltage with ohms on the Stardust in order to get always 6 Watts.
So you can set the Watts that you want, 6, 7, 8, 9 Watts or whatever
and when you replace the atty it will do the rest of the work.
It will relate the ohms with the watts that you've choose auto-adjust the volts.
Now we can increase it to... Let's see what's the maximum wattage with this Stardust.
It keep allowing us to increase the wattage...
It allow us to go up to 10.8 Watts, this must be a good setting to burn our throats...
But if I replace this Stardust with the DID,
The ohm difference betwwen both of them is very little,
Now it allows us to set the maximum wattage up to 11 Watts, which I think is the limit, I cant really tell.
So has you can see this the way it works, obviously I will not vape this at 11 Watts,
I don't want to get my throat burned...
8 Watts feel right to me.
So this was the menu settings,
One difference between the 1.0 and the 1.1:
On the 1.0 we cant change the wattage on the fly, it must be done by going into the menu and selecting a sub-menu.
In this 1.1 we CAN do that.
For those who dont like the Watt setting or didn't have the proper experience,
Can go to the menu, Vapor set, Switch and set it to Variable Voltage,
Then Exit.
After that you'll have the VV control on the go.
That can go from 5 Volts down to 3.3 Volts. Oops, sorry, down to 3 Volts. :)
In my opinion, I prefer using Watts, but that up to each one of you.
Here's the eVic with the DID and let's go back to see how it vapes like.
Welcome back to the vaping test of the eVic.
With a DID with 1.9ohm resistance.
PG e-juice. Let's see how many Watts do we have set on this device.
It's set to 7.5 Watts, so let's see how it goes.
Vapes very well.
It seems to be dealing very well with the Watts setting,
As far the vapor temperature goes.
Now I just replaced the DID with a Stardust 2.3ohms at 7.5 Watts.
It's ok. But on the Stardust there's a difference, for those who dont know the genesis style attys,
I like to vape the DID at 7.5W, 8W or maximum 8.2W,
And on the stardust, I know dont if there's because of his system,
The Genesis system is differente that the regular fiber wick with a coil wrapped around it,
I think that the stardust at 7.5W is alters the flavour,
So on the version 1.0 we have to go to the menu then to the sub-menu in order to change the wattage,
And change from 7.5W of the DID to 6W each time I swapped the atty,
And on this 1.1 version I can change the Wattage simply by turning the wheel,
As you can see there, 6.5 Watts.
Let's try it at 6.5W, I prefer at 6W but let's see how it vapes.
So the vapor has the same temperature but the flavour is better.
I prefer the Stardust with this juice at 6.5W and the DID at 7.5W/8W.
So on the v1.0 which the version that you'll probably get from any store,
This device was sent to me by Spaincigar.es in order to review it.
It came with the v1.0, so I've went to Joyetech.com,
I got a iMac, so I've used the Dual boot sistem and ran the Windows OS,
Installed the Joyetech Software on it,
Then I've done two things: Updated my personal info into the deice, like my name and age,
It's not that useful but ok...
And also updated the firmware version from v1.0 to v1.1.
On the v1.1 I got quick access to the wattage setting
Let's show some other thing about this device,
Like I where saying on the close-up
about the batteries,
Here's one 18650 AW 2000mAh,
And I'll show you that it fitting quite well.
The only thing that we have to do is change the battery size on the menu to the 2200mAh,
Just because it doesn't change its duration, but the 2200mAh is the closest to it.
It's not cool to have a battery indicator sayiong it's on the 60% when we really got only 30%...
If the AW battery has less capacity.
So it's recommend to always stick to the closest mAh setting.
I'll just set the battery amp to 2200mAh on the Vapor Set and Battery menu,
And pick the 2200mAh, which is the closest to the AW mAh.
Choose Exit. And as you can see I'm doing this quite fast.
I've seen many eVic review that some claim that the menu is hard,
I really dont think so, it's *** the first 5 to 10 minutes, then it's easy to navigate.
Let me show you the battery icon, I've charged this 2600mAh battery to the close-up,
This AW has some vape time on it, so it shows 57%.
And it will allow me to take another 349 puffs, I think is ok for this review.
I'll just crank this up to 7.5W...
I would like to see some changes in the menu on the next firmware update,
When the Joyetech releases a new firmware update, then can change anything they want on the menus,
That's cool, it's the first vaping device that allow changes by home made updates,
So I would like to see on the next version
a change on the puff counter,
It would be nicier to have the ohm ready on the main screen, it would be awesome,
So they should get rid of the puff counter and it should get the ohm reading instead,
Then the total remaining puffs could stay as it is, I think that's no major isuue with it.
The vent hole size very good, the height is also good.
It has the almost the same size as the Provari with a 18650 battery set up.
Let's see...
Many of you use the devices as a passthrough, this allow to do so while it's charging,
But the cable port is on the side. It's not that comfortable...
It would be better if that cable was plugged into the bottom of the device, but that's not possible. :)
The manu, like I've said is very simple to use,
It's only *** the first 5 to 10 minutes, after that is easy,
The button is good, if we search it with our finger it's easy to find,
As you can see there it's stick a bit out, which is good.
It also have a clicky sound, a very soft click,
We can notice the clicky sound,
Imagine that you're in a some with some people, they cant hear it, only you, which is nice.
It's not so annoying has the Lavatube.
It's has the 10 second cut-off, that will appear on the screen, like so,
In my opinion they should get rid of this, it's doesn't make any sense and it lights up.
So they should get it out...
I also like the wheel to get easy access to the up and down controls,
It's a different system, I've seen a fire button in shape of a ring on a Hybrid Genesis mod,
Also love the Catch-cup , it's cool for all the vapers, mainly the drippers,
It keeps the juice from flooding the device,
But keep in mind to drain the jucie fist before unscrewing this cone to avoid flooding,
By unscrewing the cone with jucie inside will obviously flood the device,
Up here on the top the cone, it has some slots to allow the airflow
when using Vivi Nova, Carto tanks, Genisis tanks or any other tank systems,
So those slots will allow the air to flow into the bottom of the tank connection.
And the device will be usually appealing.
As you can see vapes very well,
Lets check the specs on the Joyetech website...
On the website it states that the device price is 120€ but on the Spaincigar.es is less expensive.
On the Specs side... it has 124mm height,
There's no much info around here...
There's some news, it says that the firmware v2.0 is comming out very shortly!
Let's wait to see what will this new version brings us...
I hope it will add the changes that I've mention before.
And it's all, I think...
I would like to see is smaller tube, so you can use shorter batteries and make the mod a bit smaller,
I dont know if you've seen the Pbusardo review on this,
He had a problem with the MicroUSB port, it doens't close properly, so he took it out,
Because when he was searching for the fire button we find the sticking out usb cap,
And he was pushing the usb cap instead of the fire button,
That didin't happen to me,
I've already took it out and put it back on several times to attach the USB cable, so i could update it,
Also to check the software on my PC, beacuse it has a kind of graphical history
That allow us to check
The hour of the day that we used the device, the month period that you used the device more often,
The most used resistance of the deice, etc. It's some interesting statistics and you can check.
But I've connect this to my PC and I didn't experienced any trouble with it.
It might a stand alone problem, or a facturing problem.
This one is working like a champ.
This a very good device, I don't really have much bad to say about it,
I would have some bad things to say about the 1.0 version, Because of the wattage setting
that was requiring us to go to the menu and sub-menu to change it, which is a pain in the ***.
After praticing the menus is easier, but if you driving and you want to swap to a stardust
Then we have to go through all the menus to get it right. This way it's simple to increase/decrease the watts.
So that's it, I hope you'd like the review, and question please send me and email or a PM.
So i can answer and help someone out regarding this device.
Thanks for watching, see you soon!
