Hey everybody! Welcome to the Ocala Wildlife Management Area. This area is almost 400,000 acres just outside of Ocala.
Let's go meet with a local expert and learn all about it.
Welcome to the Ocala Wildlife Management Area,
We have a lot of hunting opportunities here.
Such as Archery, Muzzleloader gun, general gun season, which we have a dog hunt for deer here,
as well as still hunting during our general gun season.
We also offer a youth spring turkey hunt on our Lake Delancey unit.
As well as a general spring gobbler hunt on most of the forest.
The Ocala Wildlife Management Unit is broken up into four management units for hunting season.
There is the Pipeline Unit, which is the largest unit here on the forest and that unit is a dog hunt unit for deer.
We also have the Church Lake Unit which has a dog hunt and also a still hunt during the general gun season.
We also have the Lake Delancey unit and the Hopkins Prairie unit which are both designated still hunt areas.
This area has a lot of water recreational activities because we have a lot of
natural springs, lakes, and rivers associated to this location
So there's a lot of boating and fishing opportunities...
There's snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming, kayaking, canoeing,
I mean there's just a whole plethora of things that you can do that area associated to water environments
here on this area.
There are tons of camping opportunities here on the Ocala Wildlife Management Area.
So bring your RV or your tent and your kids and come on out!
This area offers a lot of unique recreational opportunities. We have a lot of horseback riding trails.
We even have a 100 mile trail down on the south end of this area that's really great for horseback riders.
And they have a lot of camp ground areas that really are accommodating to horses.
There are a lot of hiking opportunities, there are hundreds and hundreds of miles of hiking trails,
including the Florida Trail which traverses a very large portion of this area.
One of the coolest things about this area is the shooting range.
Here, there is a shotgun range, where you can bring your own clays and throw them yourself.
And there's also a 100 yard rifle range where you can also shoot pistols at closer targets.
There are a lot of really amazing wildlife viewing opportunities.
We do have one of the largest bear populations in the state of Florida.
So anybody who wants to see some black bears, this is a great place to come and do that.
We also have a lot of other interesting animals that can be viewed here.
Alright, we have had a great time exploring this area today.
We even got lucky enough to see a big bear cross the road, a fox squirrel, multiple turkeys, and some beautiful springs.
