Hey guys it's Joanne from fifteenspatulas.com. Today we're going to make a refreshing and
simple summery drink. We're going to do some watermelon lime slushies. This is a great
all natural alternative to those bright blue convenience store slushies that we can all
admit we've bought at one point or another, but trust me, this is much better. The first
thing we're going to do is cut up a watermelon into cubes. I have a video where I show how
I like to cut up my watermelon and also how to find a good watermelon, tips and tricks
for picking the best one. For instance you will see there is a yellow spot here. This
was where the watermelon was sitting on the ground ripening up, and you want a creamy
yellow spot, and if you have a watermelon that doesn't even have a spot, it probably
won't be very good. So check the link in the screen for that video to pick a good watermelon
to begin with. So once I've cut off both sides, I just take a sharp knife and go around the
edge and cut off the rind. Alright, so I've got my trimmed watermelon here, I'm going
to cut it in half to make it a little bit more manageable. And I'm going to cut it into
little cubes, and what we're going to do is freeze the watermelon cubes to make ice cubes
for our frozen drink. And I like doing it like this because you don't dilute the watermelon
lime flavor with water, it's just really strong watermelon. We've got these nice cubes here
that are going to go into my bowl. Okay, last little bit into my bowl. We're going to put
this in the freezer, and it should take about two to three hours for this to freeze completely.
I've got my watermelon ice cubes here, and I'm going to add about two cups to a blender.
And then I'm going to add about two tablespoons of freshly squeezed lime juice, and I'm going
to try not to add any simple syrup because this watermelon is really sweet. Let's go
ahead and blend this up. Alright, that looks great! Pour my slush into a little glass,
smooth that out a little bit, take a sip. Mmm...oh yeah, that doesn't need any extra
sugar. Mmm. It's so good for a hot summer day, this is the perfect refreshment. If you
wanted to you could add some fresh mint to this, but I'm just digging the watermelon
and the lime here. You can get this full recipe on my website fifteenspatulas.com, I put a
link in the description box below. Don't forget to subscribe and like before you go, and I'll
see you next time!
