[Tara Reed]: I am here with Trish Biddle
SURTEX 2011. I met her last year.
- amazingly talented artist, and she has agreed to tell us her story.
I am Trish, and this is our second year at SURTEX.
I'm very excited. We made a -
managed to meet a couple of licensees,
so I'm excited to get back to Dallas,
and see what can happen,
but that's the most exciting thing about SURTEX.
You never know what you're going to get.
[Tara Reed]: And how did you find out about licensing in the first place?
Well, I was a textile designer for many years.
In fact, two of my representatives are here,
Balfour and Cherry Design Partners //??//
And I kind of got burned out about...
the monotony of constantly producing, so
in fact, that's where the fine art started to come into play.
I got published by a publisher in Vancouver,
realized that that was not for me either,
and my husband and I -
he is the smart one, I am the creative -
[Tara Reed]: Oh, please!
We put our heads together and started doing some research
and learned about Tara and her great information and advice
she so kindly gives to all the creative people.
And - just took a risk.
Spent some money and here we are, and it's totally paid off.
It has sent us off in a new direction that we never imagined.
[Tara Reed]: Well, awesome!
Yeah.
So, that's proof positive that you can evolve
and try all kinds of things as an artist
and to figure out where you fit.
Exactly, and I would recommend it to anybody to think about it.
Exactly.
We've met a lot of artists coming through just trying to get information,
and - you know - they're nervous and not sure.
It is life, everything is a risk.
Put your best foot forward.
Get as much information as you can.
And - see what happens.
[Tara Reed]: Great! Thank you so much.
Thank you.
