This year, we’ve made strides toward building a more complete innovation ecosystem.
To best educate the next generation of problem solvers.
There's a buzz about what’s going on at the Cockrell School.
And so many people, talents, disciplines and expertise are a part of it.
We are responding to global challenges and those happening at home.
In areas such as energy, health care and infrastructure.
We're developing new technologies to extract oil and natural gas while assessing the risks
and rewards.
We made important discoveries on how to turn algae into products ranging from pharmaceuticals
to fuels.
And are working to bring the technology to consumers.
We studied the viability of installing wind turbines on offshore platforms along U.S.
coasts.
And helped inform responsible energy policies on Capitol Hill.
We have created more affordable, longer-lasting batteries for electronics and transportation.
And learned to be entrepreneurs at the same time.
We perfected predictive models and simulations to respond faster and more accurately to natural
disasters.
And now evacuations are conducted with more precision.
We have introduced a new flood prediction program adding critical hours for flood warnings,
especially in remote areas.
We're designing wireless video networks that more effectively store, stream and share information
to prevent data traffic jams.
And we’re building cutting-edge consumer energy systems through the Pecan Street Consortium.
Using powerful supercomputers, we perfected techniques to model human blood flow for better
treatment of heart disease.
We have been gaining precious insight on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s by combining new technologies
in engineering with biology.
We have worked to commercialize a noninvasive device to diagnose skin cancer
And have developed orthotics and prosthetics for military veterans who want to return to
active duty.
We are educating more than engineers, we are educating the next generation of innovators.
Students like me, who are filing patents and starting companies.
And entrepreneurs like me, who have learned that success is more than just creative ideas.
And the future of engineering has never looked brighter.
We are making The University of Texas at Austin a premier destination for engineering education.
So students have access to the greatest faculty and facilities in the world.
And are creating an engineering epicenter that ensures students after me make the greatest
impact at home and abroad.
Ours is a common goal of extraordinary actions in extraordinary times.
To better my life
And your life.
Our lives.
