As you find out later, when you generate your RoboHelp projects, you can choose
to generate them in one or more languages, also known sometimes as localization.
If that's the case, you might want to update your search functionality to behave properly,
so when users are searching for words, phrases, terms, they're going to find what
they're looking for with accuracy.
We can access those advanced settings by going to File and selecting Project
Settings again, and this time from the General tab, when we look at the language
we selected as our default language, we'll click the Advanced button next to it.
And from here you'll see Advanced Settings for Localization.
Now here we have a number of different tabs: Always Ignore, the Stop List,
Phrases, and so on. Let's begin with our Stop List, and this list contains
common words like the word 'A' the word 'the,' that the search is going to ignore
for an accurate result.
So you'll see a list that you can scroll through.
If there's a word you want to add, you can click New.
I'm in Canada. I'm going to type in the word 'eh' and press Enter, so that'll be
ignored in search functionality.
If I see something I don't want to include on this list, I can select it and
I can click Delete.
I can edit. Maybe this is spelled incorrectly. Click Edit to get inside or click
the word, click again, and that's the same as clicking Edit. Or in this I think
I'll just remove it by clicking Delete.
So you can be adding new words, deleting existing words, and then maybe you want
to go right back to the beginning.
You can't remember what was there and what you've added. Click Reset to Default
and you'll be right back where you started with your Stop List.
Let's move on to the Phrases pane here where we don't see a very long list, but
in this case it's more than one word that's going to create a phrase.
In this case, Adobe Systems is something that could be searched for, as opposed to
just one word, Adobe, and another word, Systems.
If you want to add something, again click New and this might be a good spot for
us to type in 'Online Library,' something very specific to lynda.com. When we press
Enter on the keyboard,
it's locked in and now part of our Phrases list. And the other buttons that you
see here allow you to edit and delete those, just like we saw with our Stop List.
Let's move on now to the Always Ignore Words list.
Now here, you're going to see what we call noise words--
again, the word 'as,' 'the,' 'ah.' The Smart Index Wizard uses this list to keep the
noise words out of the index.
So again, you can add words here.
I'm going to click New and type in my Canadian saying 'eh,' press Enter, and
it's part of my list.
Let's go to Synonyms now.
Here's a good spot for you to add words that will result in a search
functionality finding the same help if another word is used, and you set up that
other word as a synonym.
For example, if we click New you'll see we have the word 'word' over here in the
left. What is the word? Let's type in the word load as a synonym for open.
So use your Tab key, and I'll take you over to Synonym and type in Open.
Press Enter and you've got a new synonym and you're ready to move on to the next one.
Again, if you just click anywhere on the list, you can then go back and delete
something that you don't need, you can select something on the list and edit it
if you wanted to, and just go into the side that you want to edit, just click
anywhere to continue.
All right, let's go to the last one here, which is the LNG file.
Now here you're going to see quite a long list of options that might not make a
lot of sense to you at first glance, and these elements are part of the user
interface for WebHelp, or if you chosen the WebHelp pro-layout, FlashHelp,
FlashHelp Pro, ErrorHelp, printed documentation, or HTML help output.
So when you edit this list, your changes supersede settings that are made in the
Project Settings in other locations.
So for example, as we scroll down, we're going to see a number of items that
might be part of the user interface.
Let's say we go down to the word Author and select it, click it again, and you
can go in and delete.
So maybe the word author equals something other than author. Maybe it equals
Writer on the user interface, so you've made the change.
Again, you can scroll down through this long list.
There is Glossary, Searching equal Search, et cetera.
You can edit any of these by selecting them and clicking again, or using Edit.
Notice there is no Delete button.
You can't add anything to this list. You can't remove anything.
You can only edit the user interface items that you see here.
Again though, you can reset back to the original default by clicking Reset to
Default. So once you set up your Advanced settings for localization, click
OK, click OK again to close up the Project Settings, and continue working on your project.
