I'm Jamal Spencer for Expert Village, here at ABC 3 here in Lansing, and we're going
to talk about how to be a successful sports broadcaster. Hunting is a sport. A lot of
people may think it's not, but it is. You have to be prepared to deal with those types
of athletes. Hunters are athletes. They go through grueling things. They have to sit
out in the woods for hours, sometimes by themselves with no entertainment, focused on trying to
bag that nice eight point buck so they can mount it on the wall or get them some venison
for dinner, or maybe some squirrel stew for lunch. In the market I'm at, in mid-Michigan,
hunting is very big in this area, so you have to know a little bit about it. You have to
present it to the people because they want to see it. They want to know when hunting
season starts. They want to know what they can and cannot do what weapons to use, what
knives that they can use to dismember their kill so they can put it in the car. You have
to be prepared to talk hunting with people that love to talk hunting. So if you're in
a market that loves hunting, that's a big outdoor market, hey, give it to the people.
If they want it, give it to them, and you have to learn enough about it so that you
can give it to them successfully. Hunting is big in this country. A lot of markets love
it, got to be prepared to talk about it.
