Today we're running the tommy copper fabrics we have some of the
copper infused nylon running with
regular nylon and that's blended with the spandex fabrics to create
the Tommie Copper fabric
my name is Leslie
and I'm the knitting manager here
and I've worked here about 10 years
As the fabric is formed it is run down in a tube, we catch it into a
take up system
where we will dock it into rolls and move to the next process which is grade inspection
this is where we look for every defect
that we couldn't catch on the knitting machine
What's amazing about this is there's nothing new electronically that can catch all
of these defects
like the human eye
For the next step, it's preheat set
My name is Kenny, I've been here 12 years
I'm the director of manufacturing
The preheat setting process helps to
stabilize and set
the compression memory of the Tommie Copper fabrics
The Tommie Copper fabric is now ready to be dyed and given color. The first is the pre-wash step, which preps the goods
prior to dying. The next is
the dying process. It's loaded in a rope form
so there's one rope per
strand of a dying machine.
The last part of the process is a
post-wash and after treatment process. Each color
starts with a formula that's actually generated in the dye lab.
There is a science behind making these colors. We have to do precise
measurements of dyes and chemicals, we have to produce the color,
and eventually buy thousands of pounds
My name's Gary Brainer,
I'm the director of quality technical services and I've been here for six years
I'm in charge of the dye lab, and this is where we create
all the colors for our customers
My name is Tim Hopkins, I've been with the company for eight years and I'm the director of surface finishing
After the fabric is passed through either of the two finishing departments, all the fabric comes into
this department which is known as quality inspection. This is the last time that
the fabric will be looked at
before it goes to the final customer
At this cut and sew facility, we take the rolls of fabric that we received,
and we transform them into
Tommie Copper's products.
My name Ed Castyra
and I'm the director of manufacturing
There are several operations
performed by several people. Setting the label, joining
the seams together,
setting the elastic, making the hems, and so on down the line
Things are changing so quickly,
there's new technologies coming down the pike, and we have to stay on top of it
My name is Denis Walker
I'm the manager of research and development. I have
worked here for 19 years
we don't like to look at it
as if we make fabric.
We solve whatever problem
or meet whatever needs there is that a customer might have,
and that's what we do at Tommie Copper
