Hello, Midz here. And welcome to a Midztoyz video tutorial
We're going to make a 2 piece rigid mold using polyester putty
or commonly known as plastic body filler.
Here we have a small clay figure that I'll be molding.
The first step is making a clay wall to separate the two halves.
This will create a seam line on the castings,
so make sure to make the wall as neat and tidy as you can
Here I'm pushing some keys that'll help to keep the two halves orientated proparly when we join them later.
We're ready to make the mold, but before that we brush on some petroleum jelly to act as a mold release.
Mix the body filler and catalyst as per instructions
after you've mixed it thoroughly
slather them all over the surface of the figure
Make sure to get all of it coated, and leave it to dry
After the mixture dried, we can now tear the clay wall do the same to the other side
just remember to brush in some mold release before applying the second half
After the second half dried you can now pry open the mold.
the body filler mixture will generate heat when it cures
this can be a problem for our clay figure
so to make it easier, we could just put the clay figure and the mold into the freezer for a couple of minutes
until the mold and figure cools down and it would be easier to pull the figure from the mold
After some cleaning our mold is ready to use.
Thank you for watching.
and see you next video
