Hello, welcome to our video again. This is a tutorial of how you can create a 3-light
setup using only 1 speedlight,
without the help of reflectors, only a technique called multiple exposure.
Multiple exposure is the technique that's used back in the time of films
where in Photoshop you can mimic that technique as if you're
overlaying a texture on top of a photo.
You can get the whole result in-camera without editing whatsoever
but today i will show you a little different approach in multiple exposure.
First thing you gotta do when you're planning on doing a multiple exposure shoot like this
is
to setup your scene and make sure it's stationary. So remember that you're gonna be
limited to your tripod - make sure it's very very sturdy. And don't forget to keep in mind
what
kind of lighting setup are you gonna use.
Before I start shooting I already have the whole image in my head and I also note how
I will light it
and because my camera can only shoot 3 frames when doing multiple exposure, I setup - I
draw
a little bit of lighting setup right over here and I will create a digital version very
soon.
And this is where I will position my light.
The diagram itself mostly consists of one key light which is very soft, 1 fill light
which
acts a little more as an edge light in this case and one rim light on top which we usually
call hair light. But this is a toy we're shooting so it doesn't have hair.
The next thing you gotta do is to just set up the multiple exposure on your camera and
be warned, always remember that every camera is different. My camera in particular
is the Nikon D90 and it has 3 different frames - 3 different exposure that I can combine.
You can set the Auto Gain on or off depending on how you like it, and you have to experiment.
Next thing you have to do is to experiment. Every light position can contribute differently
for example, your fill light can be a little brighter or darker while your fill light or
edge light
can be brighter of darker relative to the keylight itself. After you note how bright
each light
position you're gonna use, write it down and always remember - because the next thing you
don't
wanna do is to shoot all 3 exposures but you haven't really turned on the multiple exposure
feature on your camera yet. And that sucks cuz you have to do it all over again.
After you master this technique you can basically use it in all - in any kind of photoshoot
you have
especially product and still-life. If you're creative you can use bulb mode and use as
many light
as you have - well, using only 1 speedlight and simulate having like 20 light using bulb.
Although that takes a lot of practice. But this is a good foundation for you because
if you already know how to do this you can basically shoot a product for Apple.
Well I hope you like this tutorial and be sure to drop us a like in this video give

because there's gonna be a lot more to come in this channel.
Thank you very much.
