Let us now see how a second year Nigerian student studying at the Democritus University of Thrace
Department of Civil Engineering, managed to return from Bucharest Romania with a SILVER MEDAL
at the Just concluded Mathematical Olympiad competition for University students.
Mr. Kingsley Adjenughwure takes his class probability and statistics with his fellow students of the department of civil engineering.
Mr. 'KING' as he is fondly called by his classmates and professors represented our country at the
South Eastern European Mathematical Olympiad for University Students(SEEMOUS) and won the Silver Medal.
My name is Kingsley Adjenughwure from Nigeria. I am in the Deparment of Civil Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace, Xanthi, Greece.
I am a second year student. I came from Nigeria with a scholarship from the government of Greece and Nigeria.
We were 17 applicants from Nigeria for the prestigious BEA Scholarship and after the apptitude test, I was selected to receive the scholarship.
That's how I came to Xanthi to study civil engineering.
Every year the school assembles a team of its best mathematics students, coached by Prof.
Basil Papadopoulos to participate at the the mathematical olympiad and they have maintained a good reputation at the competition.
Prof Basil Papadopoulos: It is not just about participation and winning medals, but we take part in these competitions because
we like the olympic spirit which the competion instills in everyone.
We do it with a lot of zeal and appetite. The students give their all to take part and succeed in these competitions.
Head of Department: I think this medal is a reward for the hardwork the teaching and research staff of the civil engineering department.
Aready thinking about his future, Kingsley doesnt hide the fact that Greece is his second country.
Kingsley: I like Greece, now that I am here, especially in Xanthi where I study.
Generally, I try to live ( without my parents of course) and everyone around me has been helpful including my classmates
and Prof. Papadopoulos whom I now have as a mentor.
After his studies here in Greece, Kingsley hopes to do his postgraduate studies in the UK, USA and then
go back to Nigeria to work to be closer to his parents and six siblings
of which he revealed it is very difficult to live far from them.

I learnt Greek in Thessaloniki with a very good teacher Mrs Pavlina Graikou.
I liked the greek language and also because of my scholarship,I summoned courage and was detemined to succeed.
God helped me a lot and also the people around me. That's how I manage to reach where I am now.

I like mathematics a lot. It is part of my life.
