If your resolution was to shape up in the new year to create a new you – Columbus
State has lots of options for staff and students – with most of them here in the Human Performance
center in the lower level of Delaware Hall. The Sport and Exercise Studies Department
offers action-packed classes that’ll burn calories. From total body conditioning to
yoga – even bowling – they provide one hour of college credit. And it goes beyond
classes – they also offer individual one-on-one personal training outside class time.
Jackie Teny-Miller, CSCC Mental Health Instructor & Personal Fitness Student: (00:28) One the
cost, one the convenience, two I heard they had great trainers down here and I was just
in a place in my life where I thought I needed to get in shape.
Mandi Cecil, Sport & Fitness Management Coordinator: (02:24) With personal training it can be one-on-one,
a group session. We offer boot camp classes twice a week.
And shaping up isn’t limited personal training and credit-hour courses….
Nichole Bowman-Glover leads one of several free weekly non-credit classes where no registration
is required. This one is known as Zumba. Nichole Bowman-Glover, CSCC Wellness Coordinator
& Zumba Instructor: It’s a cardio workout using Reggae, etc. all in the form of a cardio
workout so you get your heart rate up as well as toning your muscles.
Start the new year right with a new fitness regimen. Those personal one-on-one training
sessions are just three to five dollars each. And registration is just around the corner
for spring quarter fitness classes that begin in late March.
