Once upon a time there was a Persian merchant who had a beautiful Indian parrot that he
talked with and laughed with every day. And because his parrot spoke so beautifully,
he loved him very much. One day the merchant decided to travel to India.
"My dear friend, what present shall I bring you from your home country?"
"I don't need a present as you are so kind
but if you come across other parrots there send my greetings and tell them I need their guidance."
"Ask is it right that I be imprisoned here
and that you are free to roam through the beauty of nature, and say it is nice to remember an old friend."
When the merchant reached India, he saw a
group of parrots on the branch of a tree. He greeted them and told them his parrot's message.
One of the parrots then suddenly fell down
from the tree... and died. "I caused that parrot to die, why did I ever
say anything?" The merchant travelled back home and when
he arrived his parrot became very happy."Did you pass on my message? What did they say?"
"I did but I wish now that I hadn't!" "What happened? Why would you say that?"
"When I told them your message, one of them shook and fell down from the tree and died."
On hearing that the parrot shook on her perch, she too fell down and died."
"Oh dear God, why has this happened to me? My dear parrot, why did this happen to you?"
"Why did you have to die?" While the merchant held his precious parrot
in his hands, suddenly... "Oh my, what's going on, you're alive.
What did those parrots say to you?" "By his action he showed me that it is because
I speak so beautifully that I am improsoned in a cage. He taught me that I have to lose
this quality and die so I can be free."
And the message becomes the key to unlocking the cage.
