Alright! Next up is the shiners. The shiners are a much larger minnow, very commonly used
on lake trout and salmon, also on pike. A lot of these, again, are being raised in Arkansas
on large farms. You want to be very careful where you get your bait because there are
regulations now that you may not import some bait. Here's a pretty good sized shiner, it's
about three inches, three and a half inches long. And, as we showed earlier with the tip
ups, we want to bait a shiner either underneath the dorsal fin. This is your dorsal fin, right
here, through the backbone, like so. Notice the nice action, he's very cooperative. And,
they call them shiners, you can see why. They reflect a lot of light and attract a lot of
attention to game fish. Another way of hooking a shiner can be, again, through the lips,
up behind the head,
between the eyeballs straight up. Still, lots of good action, lots of light, lots of reflective.
You get some of that purpley color in there, you get some purple, and some orange, and
some green. All of the colors that a good crippled minnow is going to share. So, that
there, is a shiner. Once again, that's used for lake trout, salmon, and pike.
