Hello!
We're going to go over the phrasal verbs "to
turn on" and "to turn off"
today. These are pretty simple. You just have to learn them,
and how to use them. To turn
on means to start something
like electricity, gas
or water. So, I could say
"turn on the light. It's dark in here."
Please turn on the light. It's dark in here.
I could say "turn the TV on",
because we can put the object the sentence in between
turn and on. So, turn the TV on please.
My favorite show is getting ready to start.
The opposite is true if we are causing something
to stop. So, this means that we do not want
it to function anymore. We're stopping the function of something.
The flow of water or
electricity. So, to turn off...
I could say "turn off the water. We're trying to save money on the
water bill. Turn off the water please. Can you turn the gas off
on the stove?
So, and here we have turn is way up here
and off is way down here.
can you turn the gas off on the stove.
Perhaps the food
has cooked. Now for a visual demonstration to turn on because I do have some
lights
here available. I'll use this one.
I'm going to turn it, I believe it's in the photo now...
I'm going to turn it off.
Alright, I'll turn this light off too. It's going to get pretty dark. Not that dark.
now I'm going to turn both lights back on again.
At the same time. Alright. So,
listen and this is Just
to help save electricity around the world.
Tonight, before you go to bed
please turn off the lights. If you're not watching the TV right now,
go to your remote control, turn your television off.
Okay? So just turn things off,
save water, save electricity, and save money
too.
