There's a guy who does something so dangerous on his bicycle
that he was not even allowed to demonstrate his unique
ability here in the United States.
He can pop a wheelie 150 feet high.
It's not something anyone should try at home.
Beautiful Brazil.
Known for its Carnival, string bikinis,
breathtaking beaches, and now
daredevil cyclist, Éder Franco.
You'll see today, Éder is attempting
the riskiest ride of his life.
He will try to ride his bicycle
on the ledge of this 150 foot building.
And even more amazing,
he will try to pull off this peerless performance
without a net, lifeline or safety device of any kind.
At 42 years old, Éder is a hair dresser
and father to be.
But having ridden a bike all his life
he's gotten pretty good at it.
Still, this demonstration of skill and nerves
could cost him his life
because when you're riding hairpin curves
16 stories high on a roof full of holes
one wrong move can be your last.
To kick off his fantastic feat
Éder is now beginning the long climb
of the ladder to the roof.
Since it's the raining season
Éder must constantly watch the weather.
Moisture translates into slippage,
a situation Éder and his brother Maurício
must prevent at all costs.
It's an extremely risky feat
that should never be attempted by viewers
Éder carefully inspects the surface
looking for anything that might interfere
and plunge him into his death.
Making some last minute adjustments
Éder is ready for a warm-up.
Fearless, Éder rides with no hands
along the roof's edge.
Feeling confident, this daredevil pushes at even further
but as he's tempting faith
heading towards the roof's edge
Éder looses his balance
but amazingly within inches of going over the edge
he regains control.
Incredibly, Éder takes off one of the tires
and begins doing unicycle loops.
Even after all these years of watching his brother
Maurício admits he still gets nervous.
After a few times around the roof on one wheel
Éder begins doing something no one expected,
and something no one has tried at this height before.
He's actually going to stand on his seat
and let go with his hands
while riding his bike like a surfboard.
The spectators, many who are friends of Éder,
are tense.
But Éder lives for danger and sure of his skills
he takes off.
With death looming on him inches away
Éder surfs his bike with the precision and grace
of riding away.
Except here. The slightest breeze threatens to blow him off
the roof, into his death.
Maintaining the focus and concentration of a tightrope walker
he is half way across.
Riding six inches from the edge, Éder pushes on.
Another foot... and he's made it!
Staring death in the face and walking away
this hair stylist to moonlight as a daredevil
sets a new standard for extreme cycling.
Éder Franco, Brazil's bold and brave
bike balancing thrillseeker
lives to ride another day.
"Oh and I don't like heights!"
