Heather: Hey guys! This is Heather from healthyeatingstartshere.com. So I am back at home in sunshine. Phil and
I have been traveling. For about four week, we have been on the road, visiting people,
going to conferences, all that kind of fun stuff.
I love change, so the great thing is I love going away and having all the changes but
I also love coming home and getting back into my groove. The one thing that happened on
this trip is that I got a little bit out of my regular work schedule. So I am working
on getting myself back into schedule now.
I find that there are two different types of people on the world. There are the planners
and there are the fly by the seat of panters. Now Phil is most definitely a planner. He
does fly by the seat of his pants sometimes, but I am more towards the fly by the seat
of my pants, and of things. I do like to have a plan, but I also like to do things spontaneously
and just see what happens. But what I find is that if I plan something once or if I plan
a general outline, then it makes it a lot easier for me to improvise and fly by the
seat of my pants.
So I do that for eating, and what I thought I would share today is a plan for you guys
to help give you that kind of outline and structure of the basics of what you need to
do and then for those of you who are fly by the seat of your panters, you can play with
it, mix it around, and change things as you go.
So what I am going to do is put together a menu planner so that you can write in what
recipes you want to try and make up a grocery list, and if you have this outline, they can
maybe help you plan, when you are going to make meals, when you are going to make leftovers,
and that kind of stuff.
I also put up a link to my food diary template, which is a really awesome way to keep track
what you eat. And a lot of people do that to count calories. I donÕt do it to count
calories, what I do is I like to keep track of what I at and then relate it how I feel.
So how much energy I have, how my digestion was, how my sleep was, what my mood was like.
Sometimes if I eat something weird that I donÕt normally eat, then it makes my mood
go crazy. I donÕt really like that and I am sure Phil doesnÕt like it. So I like to
keep track of that, and my food diary is a way to do that. Now I donÕt keep track of
it all of the time. ItÕs not something that you need to get obsessed with. ItÕs just
something to keep track of every once in a while to see how things are affecting you.
Then I also put my healthy grocery list up there, because I know a lot of you struggle
when you go to the grocery store and knowing what to buy.
Yeah, in the past I have struggled with that as well, but I have come up with kind of a
system, a way to categorize foods, so that I know exactly what I need and what kinds
of things to buy, but I donÕt have to always sit down for an hour, inventory my fridge,
and say, okay I need kale, I need green onions, blah, blah, blah, because I find that kind
of boring. I am not really that kind of planner.
I like to, again, have the general outline and then I can go and just get whatever I
need. I can see what looks good at the store and know that I need to get so many things
from this category, so many things from that category, and so on.
So I hope thatÕs helpful for both planners and fly by the seat of your panters, because
what I want you to do, after you watch this video, go check out those things, print them
off, and try them once, okay. Some of you will love it and want to do it all the time.
Some of you will say, I hate it, I would never ever do this, and thatÕs fine. If you have
your own system, thatÕs totally cool, just go do whatever you want to do.
Then there are some that are in between like me where you do it once and you kind of get
the framework, and then you understand things and you can go forward and do it in your won
way. But what I want you to do is just try it once, see how it goes, and I hope it will
allow you to have more fun and yet feel like you arenÕt just totally lost all the time,
because thatÕs sometimes what happens, is I just kind of feel like I am flailing all
over the place and I donÕt have a strategy, so I like to have strategy.
So thatÕs what I wanted to share with you guys today, and I am going to go off and get
my strategy back in place for our work time, and hopefully I will have some success with
that.
