Pentek C1-20 Dual Purpose Filter Hey everyone, Tony the Filter Doctor here.
Today we’re looking at the Pentek C1-20. Now, the C1-20 is an industry standard size
cartridge, approximately 20 inches in length and 2 ½ inches in diameter, this means it’s
going to fit into a vast array of industry standard size filter housings, like for example
the one that you see here. Now, the C1-20 is a 5 micron, carbon impregnated
cellulose dual purpose filter. It’s dual purpose because the cellulose media will capture
sediment down to 5 microns, which is about five times smaller than a speck of milled
flour. So it’s a great choice to capture extra fine sediment. And along with that,
the carbon impregnated into the cellulose media will remove taste and odor issues and
chlorine. Now, because this is cellulose media, it’s
only appropriate for treated water, so water that’s been chlorinated, ozonated, uv’ed
or that you’re otherwise confident does not have microorganisms living and growing
in it, because those microorganisms can live and grow on this cellulose filter.
Now filter life for this cartridge depends on what you’re looking for. For chlorine
reduction, it’s rated at approximately 5,000 gallons, but if you’re looking for it to
remove sediment then it’s very difficult to estimate because it depends entirely on
your unique circumstances. If you have a heavy load of sediment and you use a great deal
of water, it’s possible that you’ll clog the filter before the carbon in the filter
is truly exhausted. The best way to determine filter life is simply to install one and then
pay close attention to what happens next. If you’re looking to remove a taste and
odor problem, you’ll know the filter is exhausted when that chlorine taste and odor
or whatever taste and odor problem you have, returns to the water. That’s an indication
the carbon is exhausted. If you’re more concerned with your sediment problem, then
you’re looking for a pressure loss, indicating that the filter is clogged with sediment.
In either case, make a note of when that happens; how many gallons has it been good for, how
long has it been installed, and then use that as a reference point the next time you install
a cartridge. Again, this is the Pentek C1-20, a 5 micron,
carbon impregnated cellulose dual purpose filter, and I’m your host Tony the Filter
Doctor. Thanks for watching.
