NARRATOR: Next on "Xtreme Waterparks"...
the 171-foot tower
called the most disturbing in North America...
AMANDA: Oh, my God!
I did it! I did it!
NARRATOR: ...the only wave machine in the country
that lets you surf a monster current...
The wave sucks you in, tosses you around a few times,
takes off your bathing suit, and then you're done.
NARRATOR: ...and from Spain...
This ride is so intimidating.
NARRATOR: ...the one ride worthy of the world's largest dragon.
With the mouth open with these big teeth.
It's scary.

[ Screaming ]
Whoa!

NARRATOR: We start with a park
that believes bigger is always better.
And they've got the rides to prove it.
[ Screaming ]
It's Canada's largest waterpark, and it will blow your mind away.
NARRATOR: We're in Ontario, Canada,
in the capital city of Ottawa.
The park, known for its enormity,
is Calypso.
[ Screaming ]
NARRATOR: 100 acres, 35 slides,
including the panic-inducing Summit Tower.
[ Screaming ]
NARRATOR: It's the tallest slide tower in North America.
SYLVAIN: The wimps are not allowed on that tower.
The peak of it is 171 feet.
NARRATOR: It's like jumping off a 17-story building,
and it's one of 10 nail biters at Calypso...
[ Screaming ]
NARRATOR: ...like the Boomerango.
[ Screaming ]
NARRATOR: 62 feet high, 300 feet long,
it makes rafting a zero-gravity sport.
You're going into this river, down into a steep pitch...
[ Screaming ]
SYLVAIN: ...up a wall...
and then it brings you back down into a splash pool.
[ Screaming ]
That was awesome!
That ride was crazy! I'm still shaking!
NARRATOR: Amanda's got a nasty fear of water slides.
I'm freaking out!
NARRATOR: So her friends, Sarah, Eric, and Sonia,
have jumped in with a slightly twisted intervention.
ERIC: She's not chickening out on any of the rides.
We're gonna make sure she rides every ride.
[ Laughing ] I'm scared! I'm scared!
NARRATOR: And the torture's just getting started,
because up next for Amanda is the Accelerators.
[ Screaming ]
WOMAN: That's fast.
Really, really quick.
It's the fastest water ride of that type around the world.
Basically, you're being launched from 10 stories high.
[ Screaming ]
NARRATOR: The drop is like no other --
552 feet at 50 miles an hour.
Ready?
[ Laughing ] No!
Oh, my God!
[ Screaming ]
Oh, my God! Oh, my God!
We're all screaming our heads off 'cause it was just insane!
NARRATOR: But nowhere near as crazy as this --
a pretzel-shaped pair of slides called the Aqualoops.
They're a 60-foot-tall, 40-mile-an-hour nightmare
that turns you upside down.
SYLVAIN: It's absolutely, categorically, a very extreme water ride.
NARRATOR: These bad boys start with a near-vertical drop.
SYLVAIN: Same feeling as jumping off a plane.
It's that sheer feeling of free falling.
[ Screaming ]
AMANDA: Oh, my God!
Team hug?
Yeah, really. I need a team hug.
I need someone to go down this ride for me.
Ugh!
Whew!
WOMAN: It's gonna be okay.
You're gonna be okay,
'cause I'm not going on this ride.
AMANDA: I don't know why I'm so scared -- I think it's
just that stomach-in-your-throat kind of thing.
It just -- [ Squeals ]
It's freaking me out.
Eric!
Can you hold my hand? Can we go together?
No. [ Laughs ]
[ Indistinct talking ]
Here we go.
Okay, Eric.
This just got real.
Good luck!
WOMAN: Three...two...one.
[ Screaming ]
Holy crap!
[ Screaming ]
That was crazy!
You're free falling,
and then before you know it, you're kind of discombobulated,
which direction that you're coming out the bottom,
so it was awesome.
[ Screaming ]
[ Cheering ]
[ Laughing ] Oh, my God!
Oh, my God!
Oh, my God!
That was so much fun.
I couldn't believe how fast I came down.
Make sure you cross your feet and you cross your arms, okay?
Okay.
Oh, my God, Oh, my God, Oh, my God.
I don't think I can do this.
She's absolutely freaking out.
She's dying right now, yeah.
You got this!
Whoo!
I don't think I can do this.
WOMAN: Three...two...one.
[ Screaming ]
[ Cheering ]
Oh, my God! Oh, my God!
I did it! I did it!
I did it!
I did it!
I can't believe I did it! That ride was crazy!
Oh, my God!
We were so scared for you.
I was freaking out up there! I was freaking out!
They count you down, "Three, two, one,"
and the floor just drops away from underneath you,
and you shoot straight down.
It's exhilarating!
Don't leave me hanging! Don't leave me hanging!
Don't leave me hanging! Whoo!
NARRATOR: Next...
surf's up on America's only surfable manmade curl.
NARRATOR: So far, we've dared ourselves
to conquer the tallest slide tower in North America...
[ Screams ]
NARRATOR: ...a stomach-churning 171 feet.
I almost didn't get in!
I was freaking out up there! I was freaking out!
NARRATOR: Up next is a park that's all about surfing...
Whoo!
NARRATOR: ...with a wave that's as vicious as its name.
We call it Bruticus Maximus...
which is a pretty good description
of just the raw power that it has.
NARRATOR: We're in California, down south in San Diego.
It's a land of beaches, babes, relentless sunshine,
and a waterpark that's just as hot.
JEFF: It's almost like a movie theater,
when they sit and they just watch these people
either shred on the wave or just wipe out.
Whoo!
NARRATOR: WaveHouse has two different ways to get your surf on.
There's the FlowRider,
a wave machine for body boards and newbie surfers...
and the FlowBarrel, a.k.a. Bruticus Maximus,
built for the athletically insane.
I really don't want to do that.
I am petrified of waves,
so I don't like having to, like, swim through them.
Just not my thing.
NARRATOR: Rachael's new to San Diego, ready to conquer her fears,
and her new friends, Jason, Lauren, and Aaron,
figure this is the place to do it...maybe.
Rachael's smokin' hot, but she's not much of an athlete,
so I think she's in big trouble.
Rachael's gonna end up eatin' it. Definitely.
[ Laughs ] Without a doubt.
This should be really interesting.
NARRATOR: First stop is the FlowRider,
a two-inch-high continuous wave,
powered by 20,000 gallons of water.
You can do that.
Do, like, flips and stuff. It's gonna be great.
Yay!
Attagirl!
Wah!
The first reaction people have is, like,
"Wow, that looks fun, and it looks pretty easy."
Oh!
Ooh!
Whoo!
Aah!
What surprised me about it was how much it hurt when you fell.
I didn't expect that.
Whoo!
Ohh!
[ Indistinct talking ]
I'm, like, really scared.
Aah!
Aah!
Ohh!
RACHAEL: That thing straight shoots you to the back of the wall,
and you're just, like, a flailing dead body,
just, like, bouncing around like crazy.
Ohh!
NARRATOR: The flailing's about to hit overdrive,
because Rachael and gang are heading to Bruticus,
100,000 gallons of water
churning a curl that hits 10 feet.
JEFF: It's a beast of a wave.
It's just constantly pounding people.
Ohh!
Okay, this one's a little bit bigger than the other one.
Having a phobia of waves is probably not good for me.
You got to go.
I think we all bonded.
JUSTIN: Okay. I'll go first.
I vote last. Definitely vote last.
NARRATOR: Bruticus is the only manmade curl in America
you can surf standing up.
I'm seriously so scared.
But Justin and gang have decided to play it safe.
Go.
Aah! Justin!
[ Laughter ]
JUSTIN: It was fun! It was a blast!
I loved doing that. It's hard, though.
You're, like, just trying to hang on for dear life
as it spins you around.
Oh, man! That was fun!
You can feel the power and the water just rushing at you,
and one little mistake you make, and you wipe out.
AARON: Come on, Lauren!
Whoo!
Aah!
Whoo!
Come on, Lauren!
Get over there!
Aah!
She's standing up! She's standing up!
Oh! She's done! She's done!
The wave sucks you in, tosses you around a few times,
takes off your bathing suit, and then you're done.
Last but not least, baby. The little scared one.
You're gonna be okay. You're gonna be all right.
LAUREN: She looks so scared.
Whoo!
Oh, she's bad.
You're good. You've got it.
Oh!
Ohhh!
It's okay! It's okay! Go with it!
It's taking you!
Oh! That's a bad wipeout.
Oh, Lord.
I'm alive! [ Laughs ]
I just shut my eyes, plugged my nose,
and just let it take me for the ride.
We made it out alive!
ALL: Whoo!
NARRATOR: Next on "Xtreme,"
the only slide in the world that gets you face-to-fin with these.
NARRATOR: From a slide tower as tall as Niagara Falls...
to a manmade wave that lets you surf like the big boys...
we're on the hunt for the planet's top waterparks.
Next, we've got the only park in America
with two giant wave pools...
three million pounds of imported sand...
and dolphins that look like baby orcas.
BRYAN: Our rider slides side-by-side
with these beautiful Commerson's dolphins,
something that you're not gonna find anywhere else in the world.
NARRATOR: We're in Orlando, Florida,
at SeaWorld's Aquatica --
81 acres, 38 slides,
and a 300-foot racer called the Taumata Racer
that drops you head-first!
It's dark, it's fast, it's a tunnel,
it's turns, it's the drop.
[ Laughing ]
[ Screaming ]
[ Laughing ]
Oh, my God!
I was so nervous and scared.
I thought I wasn't gonna be able to make it.
NARRATOR: Krisana's at the park with Sadira, Catherine, and Tori,
good friends who are dying to see the dolphins.
[ Indistinct conversation ]
They look like mini Shamus.
But there's something Krisana did not want to see...
and that's those towering slides.
I don't like heights, and I don't like rides.
So, this should be really interesting.
NARRATOR: And by "this," she means this --
Dolphin Plunge...
[ Screams ]
NARRATOR: ...side-by-side 250-foot-long slides
that have you dropping at 25 feet a second.
BRYAN: You go from darkness to brightness to darkness again,
and then, bam!
It's a clear tube, and they can actually see
the Commersons swimming around them.
That's pretty extreme.
[ Screaming ]
Whoo-hoo-hoo!
I am so nervous.
I know. I'm nervous, too.
I think it's gonna be really exciting, though.
My stomach hurts.
Oh, my goodness.
Who's going first?
Not me.
I don't want to go first.
You guys go.
Yeah, let's do it.
[ Screaming ]
TORI: Oh, my gosh!
That was insane! Did you see the dolphins?!
It was like midnight. It was so black in there. It was freaky.
CATHERINE: You're spiraling, you're spiraling,
you're spiraling almost out of control,
and at the very end, all of a sudden, light,
and you see dolphins on either side.
I don't know if I can do this.
Come on, girls! Let's go!
You can do it, K.!
Whoo!
The only reason I'm going is to see the dolphins.
I do not want to do this.
SADIRA: You ready?
Oh, my gosh!
[ Both screaming ]
Oh, my God!
That was awesome.
Good job, good job.
I did it! Whoo!
I was really, really nervous. I almost backed out.
I closed my eyes, and then, all of a sudden, it lights up,
so I opened my eyes
and I saw all kinds of dolphins swimming around.
It's great.
Did you freak out in the dark?
Yeah. It was so scary.
Yes.
Oh, my gosh!
I'm proud of you.
Whoo!
NARRATOR: Next...
airborne and in the grips of a 75-foot dragon...
ENRIQUE: Too scary, really. Really, too scary.
NARRATOR: Our search for scream-worthy parks
had us racing dolphins in Orlando...
That was insane! Did you see the dolphins?
...crushing our fears in Canada
on North America's scariest slide tower...
I did it! I did it!
NARRATOR: ...but our wildest ride is just ahead.
It's on an island off the coast of Africa
known for untamed volcanic beaches,
a waterpark with jaw-dropping beauty,
and a fierce slide called the Tower of Power.
[ Screaming ]
CHRISTOPH: Everybody loves to watch it,
but very few people actually get on it.
[ Screaming ]
Yahoo!
NARRATOR: We're in the Canary Islands on the island of Tenerife,
home to Siam Park and that outrageous slide.
It's nine stories high...
50 miles an hour...
and shark-infested.
CHRISTOPH: You have your heart up here in your throat.
NARRATOR: But even more impressive
is the fact that Siam has 19 other rides
just as raw as the Tower of Power...
[ Laughter ]
NARRATOR: ...like The Giant, with its 48-foot guardian.
[ Screaming ]
CHRISTOPH: It's emotional, sensational.
NARRATOR: And dizzying.
You plummet nearly five stories
into two side-by-side 40-foot bowls.
[ Screaming ]
CHRISTOPH: You get on the side, up on the walls,
and you're just spinning around like crazy.
It's unforgettable.
Whoo!
[ Laughs ]
Yeah! Whoa! Awesome!
Riding the ride, I feel, like, fear, excitement,
there's a little of adrenaline going through, and great.
NARRATOR: Josué is home again
after spending seven years traveling the world.
His friends, Jonathan, Enrique, and Oscar,
couldn't wait to show him the park.
He had to try it.
We didn't want him to miss something like this.
JOSUé: This is incredible.
This park, it looks like it could be in Thailand.
NARRATOR: But Thailand doesn't have this --
the world's largest dragon
gripping one of the biggest funnels on the planet.
[ Screaming ]
CHRISTOPH: This ride is so intimidating.
It's not for weak persons, weak hearts, and weak minds.
NARRATOR: You hit 30 miles an hour as you drop into the funnel,
soaring 35 feet up the wall.
JOSUé: Holy crap!
This is huge!
It's, like, with the mouth open with these big teeth.
It's impressive. It's scary.
Wow, man! That was a massive drop!
Well, no more waiting. No more waiting.
Wow, man!
Let's go.
[ Indistinct talking ]
It's so exciting, man!
It's gonna be awesome, man.
[ All screaming ]
By God, that was great!
That was crazy!
I mean, the best thing was, like, when we came down so fast
and then, all of a sudden, you drop
like 90 degrees down, like, "Whoa!"
The ride was amazing. It was so, so fun, so cool.
There was a moment that you get out of the tube
and you see the dragon right in your face.
It was too scary, really. Really, too scary.
That was awesome!
Do it again! Let's do it!
NARRATOR: So, what's the story behind Siam's amazing Thai theme?
The park wanted a design as extraordinary as the rides.
CHRISTOPH: It's simply like a dream, you know?
You're entering, like, into an Indiana Jones movie.
NARRATOR: Siam got an official blessing from the Thai royal family
and built the largest, most authentic Thai village
outside the country of Thailand.
CHRISTOPH: The architecture, the vegetation, it's authentic.
This park is unique.
