Hi, my name is Clint Schambach, I am a St Louis Personal Trainer and also run a weight
loss bootcamp in St Louis, MO
One of the most frequent comments that gets said to me, is why don’t we focus more on
abs. Or it is sometimes asked like, hey, I really need to lose my stomach and love handles,
what are the best ab exercises, how much time should I spend working on my abs.
No one likes the answer, because my answer basically tells them that everything they’ve
been doing is wrong. The only machines you see in a gym taken up everytime you are there,
other than cardio machines, are the ab benches, or ab machines. You are guaranteed to see
people slaving away on useless exercises. People go to the gym, they hop on the treadmill
and after that, its sit ups, crunches, twists, obliques, and whatever else you read in your
magazine.
The best way to waste time in the gym and get yourself nowhere closer to your goals,
is to focus on crunches and ab exercises. One recent study said it takes about 250,000
crunches to burn one pound of fat. So, I hope you aren’t busy for the about next year.
You need to start focusing on full body ab exercises, plank variations, mountain climbers,
burpees. All the stuff you really hate. You hate it because it is hard and it works. You
will never burn fat with single movement exercises. Squats and lunges will do more to burn fat
on your stomach than crunches.
There is an old saying that in the fitness world, great abs are made in the kitchen,
not the gym. So start doing more full body exercises, eat healthier, and you will be
on your way to a better body.
