This is Tomomi Itano's Love Japan Ranking.
We'll be doing this episode outside of the studio, on location.
The two are visiting a school where people can learn how to deco.
This is kawaii.
And...
This is fun.
Tomomi tries to deco for the first time.
How will things turn out?
Tomomi Itano's Love Japan Rankings Episode 12.
Hello everyone! I'm Tomomi Itano.
Welcome to another episode of Tomomi Itano's Love Japan Rankings.
This show is all about ranking the latest trends we think might interest people outside of Japan.
Can't wait.
We have a lot of shiny things lined up in front of us.
But before we get to that, I have some news.
This show that we do for people overseas...
The first set of episodes was released in Taiwan.
Since then, beginning in January, the show is available on YouTube for all countries.
But this show is in Japanese, oh, subtitles?
Hi everyone.
Anyone can see this show on YouTube.
In China, where YouTube is blocked, this show can be seen on Tencent.
YouTube attracts 800 million unique visitors a month in over forty different countries.
800 million!?
How many is that? I can't even picture it.
It's an overwhelming number of people.
Tencent in China is a popular site with 700 million users.
That means a lot more people are watching this show. Can you please say something to our extended audience?
Hello again everyone, I am Tomomi Itano.
We want to let everyone know about the kawaii things and latest trends in Japan.
I hope everyone finds the information we provide useful.
Tomomi, you are very popular in Asia. We have some numbers for that.
You know Facebook, right?
At the web site.
At the web site? Ok, that Facebook fan page at the site...
The "Like" button has been clicked over 40,000 times.
The breakdown looks like this: Japan 43%, then Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and others.
The "Like" button has been clicked by people from a number of different countries.
That makes me happy. I can't even begin to imagine it. That people overseas are also supporting me.
I really can't imagine it.
This will be seen in Asia too.
Yoshie, it seems people in China think you are the most beautiful reporter in the world.
That really gets a lot of people laughing.
She's pretty, right?
I think mistakes were made. I'm sorry. I'm sorry they made you say that.
So let me now introduce our new topic.
The new topic is Japanese Kawaii: Shiny Deco Items.
I really love deco items. I had some things prepared here.
These shiny things are deco.
So you like shiny things?
I love these things. The shiny items I have at home...
I put together a display shelf for them.
And I have lights.
A display shelf?
I love deco things and they sparkle under lights.
So I put my collection on display.
Wow, you're very particular.
I would now like to introduce a teacher that will assist us today.
Please, join us.
Hello.
- Hello. - Hello.
This is Aiko.
Yes, I am Aiko.
Aiko is a supervisor at this school. She will be our teacher.
She is a top nail artist. Many young women look up to her.
Before we make some deco items, let's first watch a video about what this is all about. Tomomi?
Ok, let's watch the video.
Deco phones have become so common that many women interested kawaii things also own one.
Incidentally...
What does deco mean?
It comes from the English word "decoration."
Decoru means to decorate something.
The Deco Phone Boom that began in Japan,
has also crossed the seas to other countries.
There's more...
Deco has recently moved passed mobile phones and onto other items for some young women.
For example, business card holders.
These are hair clips.
Make-up brushes.
Even pencil sharpeners.
Decos are more than just shiny stones. They can also include sweets like cakes and parfaits.
This is the end of the intro on deco. Was any of this information helpful?
The car I ride in, it has a mark, I don't know what it's called...
The emblem.
There was apparently an option for a Swarovski emblem.
I selected that for the car.
So the car is sparkly.
Is Japanese deco ahead of the curve?
Compared to overseas.
Overseas? I think Japan is at the top.
Japanese people are good with their hands and careful.
They also have a good sense of color.
I think they are good.
People overseas think my nails are kawaii. It would be nice if deco items also catch on overseas.
Let's give it a try!
Ok.
Tomomi will attempt to deco something for the first time in her life.
And...
We asked her to bring of portion of her collection.
Tomomi shows off her favorite deco items.
I think this one is amazing.
Wow, it really is!
