Jazzakallah Brother Mohammed Sheikh.
Now I will open the floor for question and answer session.
The procedure is that whoever wants to
as asks questions raise their hands on their seat.
One of our coordinator will come to them.
They ask his or her question
by just on their own seat on the mike
Brother Mohammed Sheikh will clarify the questions.
Second thing is your question
should be relevant to the todayísÖrelevant
to the topic which is What Al Quraían says about hijab/veil.
You must restrict yourselves to the todayís topic.
As salam aleikum
Walekum as salaam
My name is Mrs Sharafat
First question is that, as you have mentioned,
the gold is precious for both men and women.
So is it possible that
men can also wear gold or silver?
Will you refer if any ayah is thereÖ
Ok
Now Quraían says,
I read an ayah
(Arabic)
Allah has mention
Al Imran 3: 14
the gold and silver and all this is
basically is an adornment
for men and women both,
not only for women, even men also like gold.
Generally we have seen women wearing gold,
we have not seen men wearing gold -
except for few people. They like to wear,
thatís not a problem,
but how can we justify from the Quraían
we can wear this?
I will refer you to certain few ayahs.
First of all you can note down the reference.
I have already discussed that
Allah has made gold and silver adornment.
Now in
Surah Surah Araf 7: 32
if you read
(Arabic)
Say, who has forbidden the zeenat
or adornment of Allah which
He has produced for His servants.
Allah is asking, Say
(Arabic)
that who has forbidden for His servants?
The gold and silver Allah has produced
for men and women both,
things of good sustenance.
Say they are for those in this life who believe,
purely for them on the day of judgment.
Then we do explain the ayahs
in detail for those who do know.
So Allah is asking a counter question
for those who say the gold is forbidden.
The gold was saying people,
the gold is forbidden for men.
Allah is saying the gold for both both,
the first ayat that I read. Both men and women.
Similarly I would like to refer to another verse
in Surah Al Nahl 16: 14
(Arabic)
It is He who has made the sea subject
that you may eat flesh from it and
that is fresh and tender and
then you may take out from
its ornaments to wear it and you see the ships
therein that you may seek from the waves
the bounty of Allah that you may be grateful.
Now in this the portion that it says
(Arabic) Ö
means that first of all Allah has taken out
the ornaments from the sea,
ornaments from the sea,
you knowÖfrom the sea it has been taken outÖ
(Arabic)
so that you wear themÖSo the ornaments
from the sea also that are taken out,
people like to wear them, so Allah saysÖ
(Arabic)
labasa means libaÖthe word I told you is to wear
(Arabic)
you wear them soÖwearing even theÖ
from the seaÖmany ornaments there areÖ
that are taken out from the sea you can wear them.
So your question was goldÖ
so men and women both can wear them.
What is the meaning of saying recognition
what is? Maroof?
this is 32: 33
(Arabic)
meaning when you speak to men Ö
because this referring womenÖ
you should not subjugate with the saying
so the one who has secret s in his heart Ö
will have desireÖand you should speak a saying
of recognitionÖNow here I have written down
in brackets without feeling of love and passion,
meaning you speak straight Östraightforward -
maroofÖwhich is know but
if you speak with feeling and passion
that will create this problem so recognition
people recognize that is straight talk
or this is straight talk or malign talkÖ
intimate talk or talk with feeling.
Salam aleikum Can woman do a job?
Yes. I just now read an ayah-
the two women were working outside in the
Surah Qasas 28
Two sisters were working outside.
Moosa (pbuh) went there and
talked to them between a veil.
That means they were working with Ö
they were doing the same work as the working
that men were working. But
they gave a condition that my
our poor father - is old - so that means
a woman can work outside - conditionally -
if they have no source of money or
any problem she is and if she can go in an
environment where she can have that hijab,
she can go work outside. But if
she is being taken care of by the husband
or by the brother or by father or by husband
or by son so sheís no need to work.
She should be, have a link in the house.
But unfortunately she comes under certain circumstances
where she is bound to be Ö
do some workÖshe can lookÖ
for a job which is more of a Ö
of that kind that she can have
Yes
Salam aleikum
Walekum salaam
Is shortening of hair and haircut
Shortening of hair?
Yeah - haircut.
You see just now I read an ayah in the Bible
Bible says you should have,
women should have long hair -
itís an adornment.
So now thereís an ayat in the Quraíam,
Surah Baqara 2: 196
Thereís an ayat in the Quraían.
It says. Baqara 2: 196
(Arabic)
And complete Hajj and Umrah
for Allah But if you are prevented
then send some sacrifice
that you may find and do no shave your head
until the ofering reaches the place of sacrifice.
Until the hadia reaches the place of sacrifice.
Noe the question You see the Quraían is
referring to shaving of the head of those people
who are performing Hajj and Umrah in the
precincts of Makkah and Madina.
Right? In Hajj also in Umrah also.
o ayat says do not shave your head
until hadia reaches its place of sacrifice.
Now the question is it is referring to both sexes.
It is not referring only to men.
I have been to Hajj,
you go to Hajj you will note
that men and women are performing tawaf together
Safa and Marwa is being performed together
and the places to Mina, Macca to Mina,
Mina to Muzalfa, Muzalfa to Arafat,
sorry, Mina to Afafat, Arafat to Muzalfa,
Muzalfa to Mina, all the places, stoning,
everything is being performed together by men
and women both does simultaneously,
together, and when the time of shaving of head comes,
so som scholars, whatever they are saying,
itís not permitted for women.
But ayat is referring to both,
itís not referring to men only.
MyÖ itís very simple and straightforward
that all men and women should shave their heads
if they are performing Hajj.
So if you or me are going against
this yah by not shaving it,
going against the Quraínic ayat,
whoever the alim or scholar says women cannot,
we are not denying that the women hair
is an adornment for her because Qraían says
she is an adornment.
But for Hajj they have to shave the head.
So there are a few, very, very woman,
Iíve sen with my own eyes,
because Iíve done this Hajj,
there are women who shave their heads,
and if a man and woman perform
the Hajj regularly per year,
so you can imagine women cannot have long hairs.
If IíveÖAllah saysÖthat whoever have the means
to perform Hajj he must perform Hajj.
It is not that you perform only once.
If you have the means to perform Hajj, I know,
maybe your husband had lived 17-19n years,
19 years in Saudi ArabiaÖ 22Öyeears Ö
20Öevery year he performed Hajj
so he was living in that area and
he did not miss any Hajj in his lifetime
till the day he lived in Saudia.
That you have to perform Hajj..
Every year you have to prform Hjj.
Every year if your perform it
you shaved off your head .
Every year you do it and
how can you have big long hairs?
O big hairs, women cannot have
big hairs or long hairs.
So if you note in Saudi Arabia the culture
has become such that men
and women are wearing a headgear in Saudi Arabia.
You cannot find men, you canít see the menís hair,
forget about seeing the womenís hair.
You canít see a menís hair in Saudia.
ll you can see is a shaved off hair.
After the Umra you can see a menís hair shaved off.
After Umra or Hajj you can see
you are not wearing anything.
But women are wearing a headgear.
But let me tell you one more thing.
Whenever the mean and women visit Saudi, Macca,
for Hajj and Umra, there is a dress code
known as ahram. Ahram. It is a forbidden,
you can consider it a Öyou restrict certain duties,
you restrict certain acts wqhen you are wearing ahram.
Specific clothing. For men there is two cloth.
One is lower and the other is unstitched cloth.
Shram and until you have performed
the Hajj or the Umra you have to wear
it and there are certain duties.
So men you know this, you know what
woman ahram is, the headgear.
Hijab, itís not a hijab,
itís a headgear Itís not a hijba
and after she finished the Umra
or Hajj she can remove it.
But because in the culturein Saudi she cannot,
she comes back she can remove it.
Iíve seen all the woman
who are coming from all parts of the world there,
they are wearing a headgear,
calling that this is a ahram.
When performing Umra or Hajj.
Men are having these two unstitched cloth so
that is ahram for men.
And that is the ahram for women
So women ahram or Hajj their dress code is such
that they have to wear
from head a big gear like this .
Believing woman can cover her head?
The head I understand.
You see your question is very straightforward.
A woman can cover her head during salah or prayer.
You see culture is fully in Saudi Arabia.
You see even the Iam
in Saudi Arabia covers her head,
his head but in Saudi Arabia mens
are also veering the heads,
whether they are Imam or whether
they are ordinary Arabs,
because of the culture,
because the heat of the sun,
this is natural because they are living
in a country where there is so much heat
that you cover the head. .
I was there and I had to cover my head also.
Not because of the prayer
but because of so much of heat coming
over my head. Similarly,
in a cultural where you live
because the Quraían is also the essence
of masjid-e haram for the Arab the masid haram
is a place where we get a guidance so in that
culture and area men and women
both are covering the heads.Both.
Not only women, men also. So they are praying
it with a head cover and women
are praying with a head cover.
So it has become a cultural thing
transmitted all over the world that
women are praying with their covering
their heads. It is not an ayah that tells
you that women and men, men and women when
you stand up for prayer,
you should cover your heads.
So even in some of the mosques in Pakistan,
in here you to in a mosque for
prayer they put a cap on your head.
You know this. So similarly,
what I am saying is I donít,
itís not in the Quraíanic ayat anywhere,
but if you feel comfortable
culturally you can ear it.
Not going against some Quraíanic law,
your wearing a cap. But if
I am not wearing a cpa, some Maulvi,
somebody comes and you are not wearing a cap,
itís wrong, I am sorry I donít agree with you.
Similarly, suppose some woman does not wear
a cap or a headgear and wear a Ö
establish the salah, it is not wrong.
But I would advise since itís become a culture
thing or a custom you can offer salah
with the headgear.
You said that woman can show her affection
to only one of her relations and in
Surah Noo 24:31. Suppose
I am a mother, sister and a wife,
is it really possible for me to choose
only one of them to show my affectionÖ?
Yes, actually thisÖI explained in my lecture
also it is basically mentioned in the Quraían
that you have toÖtoÖeither
you can show the adornment to the son
or the father or the brother Ö
it is mentioned in the ayatÖ
so it all depends upon your selecting
that situation. The Quraían doesnít says
that youÖ.it says or, or, or, or, or, or
continuous Now a woman can serve
the children or have affiliation or affection
to the children, they can have
affection to the father,
they can have affection with brother and sister,
but if you note they have specific
one feeling with one person. You know this.
Every woman knows that she is attached or have,
she want to adorn one person, that is her last word,
last person last means most prominent,
mostÖsheís want to adorn .
But in a general manner she can adorn the father,
she can adornÖbut to the passion ayat is referring
to is for one of the person related
to one of the person sheís related to
or the one whom sheís living with
or sheís got more feelings with that person.
It can be the father, it can be the husband,
it can be the brother,
it can the son. It can be one,
any one person. One at a time and
that is her nature. She like that.
She canít have equal feelings
with all the personalities.
That is why Allah says
she can show one of the person,
she can show this adornmentÖ
Ok thank you very much,
ladies and gentlemen
As salam aleikum wa rhmatullahe wa barakato.
