Nancy Pelosi and a cohort of Democratic representatives plan to send a message about gun control during
Tuesday’s State of the Union Address.
The House minority leader and others invited people affected by gun violence as their plus-ones
for the event. The Washington Post reports Pelosi decided to bring a child from Newtown,
Connecticut, and her mother after the child sent a letter to Pelosi’s office, begging
for a revamp of gun laws.
MSNBC reports the move is an effort to keep gun violence in the spotlight as President
Obama lays out his plan for the second term. The guest list takeover is lead...
...by Rhode Island Democrat Jim Langevin, whose spinal cord was severed by a ricocheted
bullet when he was a child. He is the only quadriplegic person to serve in Congress.

Pelosi, Langevin and at least 20 others have reportedly signed-on to bring guests affected
by gun violence. But noticeably absent from this list are Republican politicians.
A writer for conservative website Human Events implies the guest list is misleading and Democrats
are using victims as an extra push for changes in gun laws: “...this could spiral into
a human prop ‘arms race,’ in which every politician rounds up a few adorable tykes
to take the stage and convince America that the latest policy initiative is ‘for the
children.’ Soon we’ll have mobs of kindergarten students, Cub Scouts, and paperboys jostling
for space on every stage.”
Voice of America projects gun control will be one of the most important items for President
Obama to tackle during his address considering the mass killings in Newton, Connecticut and
Aurora, Colorado. The writer points out that this will likely stage an impending firefight
with...
...gun advocates like the National Rifle Association, who have recently targeted the president with
ads. This one claims President Obama is an “elitist hypocrite” for sending his daughters
to school with armed guards.
Politico reports former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has planned a strong push for gun control
legislation to coincide with the president’s national address. Her super PAC, Americans
for Responsible Solutions will debut a new ad on Tuesday night.
