Hi everybody!
Today i'm going to explain how you can draw a face.
We're going to start from something 2 dimensional like a piece of paper,
and we are going to try to make this a 3D representation of a face.
First we draw the shape of the head,
this can vary from head to head,
this head is quite rectangular shaped.
But it's often an oval shape.
So we draw our basic lines on the paper,
the hight of the nose and the lips,
and then we'll start to fill in the shapes.
This face is facing a little to the right,
so i didnt place my central line in the middle, but more to the right
That way the face will be sightly rotated,
The trick you have to use on a face are shades,
euhm but to start it's better to draw light lines,
add shades very softly, and work that around the whole face
Watch what you are drawing very carefully,
it's almost impossible to draw someone without having an example,
And I can imagine you like to draw someone special,
so here you go...
I use my laptop as an example or my new screen,
That's how i can see my picture.
Now the eye is very important,
this makes or breaks your drawing,
the eye must be draw in detail,
every dot of shadow,
every spot of light has to be in there
this makes the eye more realistic
That way the eyes will pop out of your drawing
The eye is the first thing we people look at,
so,... when that is good, you know you are on the right path,
Drawing the second eye is the hardest part of all,
try to mesure the distance between the central line and the other eye,
see how far it is from that point to the other,
making sure the other eye is on the exact spot you need it to be,
and shade it almost the same way,
do keep in mind that the lightsource will change,
an other important thing is to watch your picture,
and see where the light is and where the shade is.
The hardest part is finding the shades in the shades and the light in the light.
We humans are used to seeying faces,
we have evolved for so many years into knowing what people look like.
We spot the mistakes perfectly in drawings and we see what is correct too.
So 1 little mistake can make your person look like someone else.
That's hard about drawing faces.
Now the ear,
normally an ear is between the bottom part of the nose and the top line of your eyebrows
that's where you normally find the ear,
here this was not the case,
so i drew it exactly like the picture
the ratio of the head exists in 3 equal parts,
the chin to the bottom of the nose, bottom of the nose to the top of the eyebrows,
and the top of the eyebrows to the top of the skull
the top of the skull can also be to the hairline, this depends on the person
and if the hair is made up, and you can't see the top, then it can be difficult to see the top of the head,
so these are the basic points,
as you can see, drawing a nose is building it up with shadows.
No hard lines, the face is about shades that create a shape.
Most people draw a nose with hard lines, and that is not correct,
the only real line on a nose are the nostrils,
and they are mostly black,
build the other things up with light lines or shades
The last thing to do is making sure all shades are on the right place,
another trick i use is taking the eraser and erasing the shadow where there are lightlines,
drawing hair is easy, a bunch of lines that start from inside the head moving towards the side,
think about gravity, where your hair will fall
where is the darkest part? Closer to the face,
it always takes the light on the outside, making it darker on the face.
This was a real short explication,
I hope you enjoyed it ,and
