Today on TOAD the perfect pick me up for all that ails you Coffee Prince.
Step 1 Roast the beans.
Our main character Choi Han Kyul is played by the very handsome and sexy Gong Yoo.
His grandmother is the owner of a very large food and coffee corporation
that wants him to take over the company and get married before she dies of cancer.
And he tries to fend her and potential suitors off by pretending he's gay. He is a completely
self-centered, narcissistic guy who loves building action figures and really just needs
to grow up. Yoon Eun Hye plays our main female character Go Eun Chan. Her father died when
she was 16 and she spent the last 4 years as the sole breadwinner in her family. With
a younger sister in high school who wants to be a pop star but has no talent, and a
mom who is addicted to all things shiny and pink. Needless to say, they spend money frivolously,
and it is real, really hard for Eun Chan. She works as a scooter delivery driver, delivers
milk on a bike, she works at a wine bar, she teaches taekwondo and she even sews on eye
patches on these weird looking penguin dolls. She does all this to provide for her family,
and in the process forgoing being feminine, something I might add that she does convincingly
well. Oh, and she eats like anyone I have ever met. Male or female. Lee Sun Kyun plays
Han Yoo Joo. She is an artist that Han Kyul who used to date his cousin Han Seong. Two
years ago she abruptly left the country and now that she's back in Korea announces that
she broke up with DK wants to get back together with Han Seong. She's a bit flighty, self-centered
and hypocritical as she can't stand any competition but expects\'a0the man she likes to wait for
her but the character seems a little bit plastic. Watching the drama, you really can't stand
her in the first half. Or I cannot anyway. Chae Jun An as Choi Han Seong. He is Hang
Kyul's cousin who is a music producer and he used to date Yoo Joo until she broke his
heart. And he is a friend of Eun Chans who actually knows that she is a girl and treats
her like a girl.\'a0 The kind of guy a girl wants to have around. He has got a huge fluffy
dog and a very sexy deep voice. Two things of which i don't really catch around Korea
very often. And he has this awesome apartment with a yard, a yard in Korea. And when you
go out into the backyard there are these big giant stone horses, they are like life size
and you can ride. Ahh! To round out the cast we have the coffee princes. There is the old,
disgusting nose picking man, the flirtatious designer, the kind of missing something up
here thug, and the mysterious smoking hot waffle guy. He could get me to eat some waffles.
Step 2 Grind those Beans. Eun Chan's little sister's is dating this thug who really wants
to get her some money so she can get some voice lessons. So he snatches a purse. But
Eun Chan sees him on her scooter and trying to chase him down wrecks her scooter. After
that she returns the purse to Yoo Joo who is hanging out with Han Kyul. Long story short
she calls him up hoping to get some money to fix the scooter, and he not knowing that
she is a girl convinces her to pretend that she is his gay lover in order to fend off
all the potential suitors that grandma is sending his way. Meanwhile Han Seong and Yoo
Joo hook up. Yes they hook up. But Han Seong has this broken heart and he is like I like
you Yoo Joo but you really broke my heart and I cannot just let you walk all over me.
I'm sorry honey it is just not going to work. Step 3 put the coffee into the filter. Grandma
owns this decrepit little coffee shop and she decides that she wants to remodel it.
So she puts her grandson Han Kyul in charge jointly with the current owner and gives him
3 months in the ultimate ultimatum. If he can turn the shop around, and make the profits
double in 3 months, when she dies he gets everything. Or, if he does not manage to turn
it around, or does not even want to try, the current manager loses his business and his
house, and Han Kyul loses everything. Yeah, he will be starting over from like squa-dush.
At the same time, Eun Chan finds out that the landlord at the Taekwondo studio took
the money and ran. That is one of her better paying gigs. Step 4 add hot water at just
the right temperature to create the perfect brew. Eun Chan and Han Kyul start to develop
an intense friendship where he will save her from being beaten up, she will help him out
when she is a little depressed and she even convinces him to open up the coffee shop.
Scooting around the Hongdae Ewha Womens University Area they see a waffle cart that is being
swarmed by a pack of women. Getting a little bit closer they see a sexy waffle guy and
decide hey there is an idea. Lets make our coffee shop all male employees and hire this
waffle guy. It will help build the business and add some sexy to bring in the customers.
Meanwhile, Han Seong is starting to have feelings for Eun Chan, who likes him but is also starting
to have feelings for Han Kyul. Step 5 steam the milk. There are these crazy mixed up feelings
between the 4 main characters that are somehow interconnected. Han Seong and Yoo Joos love
is put to the test when DK comes back to Korea and offers Yoo Joo a ticket and a job back
in New York City. To make matters worse she realizes that Han Seong has developed feelings
for Eun Chan. Can she wait for him to come around like he waited for her? Also Han Kyul
has fallen in loves with a person he thinks is a guy so he is asking himself these questions.
Why do I love this guy? And I gay? But how will he handle the truth when Eun Chan's true
identity is revealed? Step 6 Pour Artfully. One of the reasons that I love this drama
is there is a fantastic Indie soundtrack that is light and eclectic. And there are some
phenomenal art works that give the whole thing a light and airy feeling. And they really
drink wine in this you can see their lip stains, but they are not trying to one shot it like
I have seen in some other dramas. The tackle tough issues like homosexuality lightheartedly,
with the over arching message that you should simply be with the person that you love. Also
Coffee Prince has an abundance of beautifully well done and sexy scenes that tug on your
heart strings. This drama is good and it makes you feel good just watching it. Sometimes
letting go of your pride is a good thing, ou never know when you are going to meet the
right person. And he just might ask you to be his gay lover. Absolute sexiness x2 makes
it ok to steal candy from kids. It's ok for guys to kiss as long as they are really happy.
As they explain waffles and coffee as a foreign concept I don't think it was as popular pre
2007, which makes me wonder did Coffee Prince start the Phenomena? Either Eun Hye or her
stunt double has an awesome spinning high kick. I had a mini lesson once here with my
good friend Marco. Yeah, he is a Taekwondo master here in Korea. He is like the most
famous foreigner who does Taekwondo in this country. And high kicks? I struggled with
the low kicks. What I want to know. Will there ever be a second shop? If so, please let it
star Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye. None of those pop tartlets like in Full House. How can anyone
eat jang jang myun like that? Where can I find one of those ugly cute penguin hit by
a mack truck dolls like she sews the eyes on? And, is the number 010-2917-1215 like
867-5309?\'a0 Who would I reach if I actually called it?\'a0 I'm a little too scared to
find out. And that does it for todays TOAD episode. Thank you to everyone who suggested
