Go Tigers!! Today, I am so excited that we are breaking ground on a new residence hall
complex to replace our grand Richardson Towers. We know that this day has been over a year
in the making as students, faculty and staff and residents have been sought on their input
for the design of this new building. This is more than a building. It will be a place
where students learn and grow, where they meet future spouses, and where lifelong friendships
are formed. It will be a home away from home, and it will be the home for attracting the
very best students to our University. The 780 students who live here will have access
to the latest technology, enhanced safety features, and a place where they can not only
sleep, but socialize, collaborate, study, and even take class in our two fully equipped
smart classrooms. Our new home will meet Tennessee's Sustainable Design Guidelines, so that future
generations of students will impact the University and community, but not the environment. Living
Learning Communities are unique environments where each student's success is supported
by a residential experience with a group of students pursuing similar academic goals.
One of the best ways to develop friendships and succeed in college is to join a residential
learning community.
