I'm in the College of Liberal Arts and I'm a Freshman.
So why UMass Boston?
There is a number of reasons.
The social life is really hot.
There's a lot of really friendly people
and the professors are really down to earth, they're willing
to help you with whatever that you need.

>> Through the CLA First Program,
I met my two best friends.
CLA First is a cohort program, it's about 50 students and it's
for the College of Liberal Arts.
They put you in smaller classes based on what major
that you want to pursue.
You maintain that small circle of students
within your four to five classes.
We sit down between classes and [inaudible] my work.
In class, we sit down and we go over the homework.
If we have questions, we go over it with each other.
I'm involved with a couple of different activities on campus,
one I'll start with, the X-MEN Street Team.
Shadi [inaudible], he started the program.
He wanted a bunch of students to get more involved
in the activities on campus.
He created a Facebook group and an event and a club, per se,
that we are now to promote everything that's going
on on campus, whether it's a basketball game, a skiing trip,
a concert, a performance, we take that event
and he distributes it throughout us and then there's BSC,
which is the Black Student Center.
We have open mics, we have [inaudible] Night coming up.
We have the [inaudible] Night.
There's also [inaudible].
I also the photographer for events U and B
and the X-MEN Street Team, for whatever event that there is.
I go to that event or I'll either videotape it,
or I'll take pictures of that event of the community,
of the performers, of who's involved in that event.
Why UMass Boston?
The student life and diversity and long lasting friendships.
