Toy Story 3 - A great movie, but did they get the game right? Let's find out.
The menu is a game board where each space represents a level in the story mode.
The story mode is pretty...okay. They kept it short and there's only about 7-8 levels
And they actually made it pretty unique because you don't just pick one character to play as
You switch between Jesse, Buzz, and ***. So there is this whole dynamic of solving puzzles with all three of them
But don't worry, if you get stuck they have a nice little feature where they show you exactly what to do
Look at ***, he was so stumped but now he understands!
Overall the story mode is pretty mediocre, worth a play through, but the game really shines
in an open sandbox world. Well, "toybox" that they call ***'s Roundup
In ***'s Roundup, you do missions to collect coins, use coins to buy other toys and different areas of the map
And you pretty much customize things however you want to
You collect things that let you customize your town in different ways
And you unlock three main themed areas: the space station with Zurg, the happy rainbow tree with Lotso the Bear, and a haunted house with Rex
In ***'s Roundup, there's a lot of different things to do. Hehe I landed him on a cactus!
One of the cool things are these pictomatic challenges where you look at the picture and try to recreate it by cutomizing your townspeople
And then you do it and a cute little movie plays
Aww he thought it was a pretty woman but really it was just a man in a dress
So somewhere along the line you find this dragon and I was like holy crap it's a dragon!
Look at this thing! It's adorable! It's got rainbows for wings and polka dots and it flies and shoots fireballs and kicks ***!
I was really excited and then all of a sudden it starts making these noises like...
[ridiculously obnoxious dragon humming]
What the hell is that? What? You're making those noises? Alright...I can't handle it. Shut up...Shut up. Seriously. Shut...up!
There are also car races and a car stunt track but I swear to God they could not have made the controls any wonky-er
It's frustrating and mildly unplayable. They took something that could have been really cool
You know, reminiscing about playing with hot wheels and doing that in a video game
And they really screwed it up since *** drives like he's continuously intoxicated
In Game Announcer: How did you do that? Robin: I have no *** clue mister announcer guy
The biggest problem in ***'s Roundup?
Well somebody decided it would be a good idea if every five minutes some *** event happened where you have to rush back to the town to save everybody
Too bad if you were having fun or if you're in the middle of a mission!
Pixies are turning everybody into catepillars again. God Dammit!
So now I have to bust out my strawberry wand and the barber guy has fairy wings. Aww Crap!
Overall for a movie game, it's excellent. For a video game in general, it's alright.
It does a great job of capturing the spirit of the movie
And it definitely gives you a fun environment to play around in.
Despite it's minor flaws, if you grew up on Toy Story like I did...it's worth playing.
