So if you're a new dancer and you want to start getting into the mix of different dance
styles, the best thing to do is to start off in some beginning dance classes. So you can
go to your nearest studio, if you're in L. A. the best places to go would be Millennium
Dance Complex, Debbie Reynolds dance studios and Edge Performing Arts Center. They have
the most, the top choreographers from all around the world teaching there and all different
levels. So it's helpful to get to know your teacher, start talking to them, ask them what
you could work on after class, after, maybe if it's your first class, go in, introduce
yourself, say this is my first class and I want to pick up some dance styles and anything
you can do to help me, I would really appreciate, and I am sure they will be very helpful. They
are all very kind there. The best thing to do is if you are going to take a hip-hop class,
go out and buy something comfortable to wear or if you already have something. I'm just
wearing sweat pants right here and a comfortable tee shirt and some kicks. Nikes are always
a good way to go, Pumas, whatever tennis shoe is comfortable for you. Hip-hop is going to
be done in tennis shoes. So that's for hip-hop. For Jazz you might want to go get some slippers,
Jazz slippers, they have some Jazz shoes which are more of a tennis shoe, type of jazz shoe
they are big and blocky. Capezios are good. Some people like to turn barefoot, when they
are first learning turns and leaps, easier to do it barefoot. You can wear your socks,
just whatever fits for you, so pretty much. And then for ballet, just go out and get you
some ballet slippers that are comfortable. Again with ballet, a lot of people dance barefoot
or dance in stockings or they have other, they have so many variations of shoes, so
if you go to a local dance store, get you some shoes, that's your starting point and
your second place to go would be a beginning dance class, just keep trying different ones
and keep an open mind and talk to your teachers and get started, it's a fun adventure and
you will learn so much.
