this is an MCEdit filter and it creates
interesting structures that you can drop in your world. These
are the early attempts to get the interesting structures looking
interesting! So we'll just push those to one side and
ignore them. But here is what it does
it creates world
wide trees, big world
spanning trees, and they have a
bark outer layer and an
interior. It is a work in progress.
It really at the moment is just producing
these twisty gnarled shapes with the bark and
then you can see the wood planks on the inside there. Materials are selectable so
more than welcome to create an iron and gold
tree trunk or a, I don't know,
hardened clay one. The other option
is to use the Swiss cheese function you can see
here it creates these voids within the
trunk and that gives you an interesting place that you might use
as a base or just add a bit of spice to your
world. This bit here is
very similar to the THAT'S NO MOON filter I just lifted at the same
method from my other filter and
just adds that little bit of variety. The way to use it is
to select an area in MCEdit and
then run the filter, but run it a few times. You can see here an early prototype
where it starts to look really
gnarly and twisted. It looks as if it's got roots that are
turning around on itself is a climbs up to the sky.
So don't stop at onerun
that kind of looks a bit like a twisty skyscraper
but as you run it again and again and again you'll start to develop
really interesting exterior and that can
make it look as if this thing's been growing for thousands and thousands of years
I mentioned the material is selectable you can also select
air that'll create a hollow tree which is
kind of like just the bark on the outside so that's
something you can do. If you make it short and
narrow so just a chunk in size you'll only get a
spire that looks a bit like a twisty mountain
at which point I probably should throw to
another filter set that I've got which is called GEOMANCER
GEOMANCER will make mountains for you. It can make craggy spires
that are similar but not not quite the same to this.
So here's this prototype that I made with the air interior
and you can see this could be
the setting for a interesting adventure
or perhaps just just had a bit of variety
to your world if it's a forest
world so
running through again. How to use the filter, which is
you download it from my website which is
DUB DUB DUB DOT BRIGHTMOORE DOT NET
under the MCEdit Filters section
this filter I've called ENT
ENT for the large walking trees
that are a character
in the Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.Tolkein
So "E N T" is the name of the filter
you grab it from my site www.brightmoore.net.
In MCEdit it'll be dropped into your /filters directory as a .py file: a Python script
In MCEdit you'll choose an area,
a large area, run the filter
then run it again a couple more times
so you don't end up with this simple shape you end up with this
interesting shape. Save it off. Pop in-game
have a look see what you think. You can use MCEdit to
blit or copy the object around between
world's. Okay its work in progress so I appreciate any feedback
if you have it please do let me know until next time though:
Happy Editing!
