Hi I'm Katy, I'm a Speech Pathology student from Curtin. I'm here in Ukraine. I'm working
as part of the Go Global program and we're working in an orphanage here.
Because of the language barrier it is difficult for me to work on language with the with the
kids, but there's all the language pre-cursors that we've been working on, so if one of the
OTs is taking one of the kids out for an OT session with play and stuff like that I'll
work on language stimulation. So repeating back what they're saying, getting them to
even copy actions and copy sounds. I don't think we expected to be something to have
changes that were massive but um, to be a part of a team that's made small changes has
been real exciting and the changes we've seen in the kids has been exciting as well.
There's a lot of kids that have started babbling more and have also said their first words
which has been really nice.
I think there's little things they've picked up and I think the more we start keeping coming
here the more little changes that we can make and which will create a big change.
