Being a female in a Non-Traditional Occupation, it can be challenging, but, it’s just that
drafting and designing is always something that I’ve enjoyed doing. I love doing it,
it’s just something I can do on a daily basis. My name is Alexandra Cuila and the
program I graduated from was the Architecture and Residential Design. Now I work at Architectural
Products of Wausau. Going into NTC, I knew that Architecture and Residential Design was
a Non-Traditional Occupation. In the beginning, I was very nervous. I was in the program with
fifteen other guys and one other female. I came into it not really having any kind of
background, but as I got to know the people and know their personalities, it was easier
for me to ask questions and not feel intimidated or embarrassed or shy about stuff. My instructor
knew my first name and knew my personality, they knew who I was, they knew stuff about
me, and they were able to help me better and also help me get fitted for a job. When you
graduate from NTC, especially the Architecture and Residential Design program, there are
like a gazillion options you can pick from. There’s not just one job you have to do
and females, I guess, take a different approach or different view sometimes than men have,
so I would definitely recommend it to females and it’s just a great learning experience.
