While doing some cleaning I found some interesting old relics that shows a bit how fandom goes way back.
In those days we had VHS cassettes
as we can see with some very dubious packaging
yes that was bought in a Chinatown.
With nothing on the cover with a very basic side sticker.
It was a time when digital fansubs didn't exist which made things a little complicated.
We still had back in those days some known titles
Evangelion in VHS. Original release from ADV Films
back then there were white VHS tapes. We didn't see too many of those.
We had a runtime of 60 minutes on those so 2 episodes per tape.
Thank god for DVDs with 4-5 episodes.
Near the end VHS tapes were so cheap at one time I put in an order on RightStuf and they were giving VHS tapes away with the order.
That was really the end, it was like "Thank you for shopping with us, here you go free stuff".
But we still had interesting stuff on VHS.
Oh My Goddess, excellent series.
Animeigo had released it on VHS and it even had a runtime of 29 minutes.
29 minutes what does it mean? It means that we had 1 episode of the OAV series per VHS tape.
We're talking about 20-25 dollars per tape.
It wasn't easy being a fan back then with tapes being 25-30 dollars per 2 episodes.
For example Evangelion, I collected the whole series on VHS and we're talking about 30 dollars per tape for 13 volumes.
Quick math... we're not so bad with DVDs after all.
I'll end on that note before I get rid of this.
Just want to keep some information for posterity's sake because I don't even have a VHS anymore to watch these.
So I'm getting rid of these and for those that are whining about DVD prices let's calm down a bit...
Hello P'luche, come on let's go.
So I end with this and bid you good day
