I do have a special connection with the buses because my dear old Dad who's retired now...
was a bus driver. My favourite route has to be the 65. It was our life line...
it took us from Kingston all points to Ealing Broadway and it's a fun bus. It is a historical route...
there are so many landmarks. You've got Ham common, Ham House...
past Richmond Hill for instance, and there is a painting hanging in the Tate gallery even now by Turner...
which shows that view across the hill to the river. That view hasn't changed over 250 years.
So it gives you an idea about how timeless the 65 is, beautiful.
Buses in London can you compare them with buses in Paris? can you compare them with buses in Bombay?
No you can't. It's unique, everybody knows that. I think every tourist wants to get onto a big double-decker bus.
As an actor of course we do tend to get a little bit spoilt, you know...
cars turn up at your door and you do get ferried around from A to B and back again...
but a bit of a leveller a good bus as people on there from all walks of life and it keeps it real.
Back in the 70s awe were travelling to the Hyde Park concert. I think it was The Who.
The bus driver at the time asked "anyone not going anywhere other than Hyde Park?"
of course everyone said "no" and he said "right, this is a special, up went special...
so we were on The Who special to Hyde Park and blimey that was a journey and a half as well.
Well those are some of my memories, but you must have plenty more. Why not let TfL know.
You can contact them that at Loveyourbus@TfL.gov.uk. Who knows I might see you on one of them.
