How do you find a good MMA gym? The most important thing to look for in a good MMA gym is, has
your instructor actually fought in MMA? Or trained people successfully to fight MMA?
Unfortunately, MMA is the next big thing right now in martial arts. Everybody wants to jump
on the bandwagon. Has your instructor really fought? If he has, he knows what he's talking
about most likely. If he hasn't, he most likely doesn't know what he's talking about.
Image if you wanted to learn to swim. You would go to someone who actually jumps in
the water and swims. How are you going to learn mixed martial arts from someone who's
actually never been in a mixed martial arts fight?
So the number one thing you have to look for when you're looking for at MMA gym is has
your instructor fought. The second, is he a good instructor? Of course, does he have
patience, does he have teaching methodology, is he really committed to making you reach
your goals? That's the second part. So some guys are good fighters, but they're not exactly
great teachers. You have to find the teacher that works for you. That's really important.
So, number one, has he fought or trained guys to fight successfully? Two is he a good teacher
and is he a good teacher for you, in the way you think things click with you? And that's
really what you want to look for when you look for an MMA gym.
My, also number three, is he a nice guy? Mixed martial arts is attracting a lot of people
who are not qualified to teach, and who are not professional about what they do. It's
very unfortunate, but it's like anything. On a boom, you're gonna have people who, jump
on the bandwagon.
What I'd like to see is a really professional instructor, who is a nice guy, and not a meat
head. That's my three things for looking for an MMA gym.
