Griaß eich! I am Hamma B from Submovement and today i sit here with Mattl on the nice Iselsberg (Mountain)
in Lienz Easttyrol. On Friday we have a party and for that we booked our Mainact
Mefjus. And i'm going to ask him some questions so that you know how he became a Dj
and what he thinks of the Drum'nBass scene here in Lienz. So we gonna have a look
what he is going to tell us.. So Mattl! Hello at first!
It's really great that you are back in Easttiyrol for another time.. M: Yeah thanks for the invitation, always great to be here.
H: We the Submovement Crew are always very happy when you are in town. M: The pleasure is on my side!
It's always fun with you guys. H: Let's start with the first Question: What I am really interested in is,
what was your start into producing Drum'n'Bass music and what was it like?
M: I came in contact with producing when I was 16 through my brother.
He did some Hiphop mcing and I just started doing HipHop instrumentals
and some Beats, all with lots of old Hardware! Like with two old Akai Samplers,
such 19 inch racks and a behringer mixer went out with it over Midi
and triggered the hole thing in Cubase. Like this it went on for about 2-3 years,
just for the fun of producing. And the my brother took me to my first Drum'n'Bass party,
This was in Wels (Austria)! The Digital42 crew made those partys
like every 2 months. There I got in touch with Drum'n'Bass.
and I totally fell in love with it. Yeah and don't know with 18 or 19 i tried
to do my first Drum'n'Bass beats myself and after a while I bought my first vinyls, and started
mixing a little bit at home. Yeah and at one point I just thought: " I like the music totally
and I want to produce much more and from that one thing led to the other.
After a while there was my first release and yeah, now its a fulltime job!
And it's fun! H: So big buisness right now? M:Yeah i don't want to put the kiss of death on it. haha
H: Yeah we think so! M: Yeah yeah its alright, I mean I can pay my bills with my music.
Thats pretty cool! And I'm happy that I brought it so far.
So I can do what I love as a Job and also get paid for that.. H: Thats like the dream of everybody.
Exactly. But you have to stay realistic because,
Djing and producing has a date of expiry! Especially in the electronic music you are
the #1 today but tomorrow maybe nobody is interested into your stuff. Thats why i try to
build up my business next to Drum'n'Bass. I also write jingles for Companies etc.
but at the moment I've no time for that, because i moved into a new studio and a new flat
and I have to fix my dj/producing business, so I have a fixed schedule.
In the long run I try to get into the mediabuisness to do music
for companies to pay my bills.. H: You told us before that you got your first releases.
What was your first really big release, which you will always remember?
M: It was 2010 on a Label from Vienna called Drumfunk.
It also was my first vinyl release! It was 4 tracks, 2 on each side! It was like really
nice and also weird to his own music sent on vinyl with your name on it...... I was stoked!!
It wasn't my big international breakthrough but it was the first track of me which I could hold in my hands.
That was pretty weird but it also gave me the motivation,
to make more and keep on producing H: Yeah and you made it!!
It is really great sound! Thats my opinion! Hats off! Hats off! massive big up!
Now some more questions! Have you ever heard of Lienz or Easttyrol before you came here?
Yeah on the map it is a term for me but I just don't have any cennections to this city or
that part of austria! Not at all! Nada!!. But it was cool! I talked to the guys from your crew
also with Timo and so on.. It was instant a cool base here and I'm really happy for every time I can come to this place.
You are all cool dudes! On your parties it's not the usual gig atmosphere for me.
Like where you go to the hotel after playing and do nothing! But I can hang out with you guys it's something special.
H: Thats also what we try to deliver to the Djs, so that they feel more like beeing with friends than doing their jobs.
M: Yeah that also speaks in your favor, if you keep doing it like that!
And you will see the People will love to come to your parties.
That's for sure!! H: What was your image of the Lienz partycrowd from the last party on friday 13th?
M: To be honest! I totally underestimated it!
I thought: OK Lienz! I don't know how the scene is there.
and then i came into this massive cow auction-hall, when i'm right?
YeahYeah! What a Location!! Murdaa Sound! The light also was off the hook! The visuals were the *** also the whole promoting team was awesome!
And the whoel location was packed with Drum'n'Bass heads! It was a real surprise for me! H: Thanks thanks!
We also liked it very much. Mefjus!? What is it like to be now a member of the Critical music family?
Yeah it's awesomel! Kasra came to me last year! in summer!
He somehow found my releases and said i should do a remix for them..
It was a track from Kasra and Enei called So Real!
I remixed that one over the summer! Yeah and then i played my first gigs in England!
And yeah it was really cool!! The guys are all very nice and we already grew together to a little family!
This is really important for me!I I don't want it to be, just business and only say hello and goodbye!
They are cool dudes and it just fits! They also make lots of events! The
support between us is also really great! For instance Emperor has a new release, we all
do some promotion for him! It is the group dynamics which are important!
I'm very glad to have a homebase like this in UK!
I'm really happy that everything turned out like it did! H: What are your next releases, which are coming up?
M: The next thing is the Contempoary EP named after the A-side!
It's a collaboration with Icicle with 4 Tracks in total! Contemporary/Dissuade/Leakproof/
and Mob Rule which is a halftime hiphop thing! Where I try to show a little bit of my roots!
It should come out end of September or mid October Before that there is a remix coming out which I did for Neosignal!
The guys from Hamburg relesed their Debut Album this year!
Pure Elektro Techno album and they asked me if I could do a remix for them! Of course I did this!!
It comes out on a Noisia Sublabel called Divisionrecords!
The next one is a remix I did with Insideinfo for Blacksunempire! It comes out on Blackoutmusic!
And I did another one with Insideinfo for Critical music! Thats like the next things
till and of october from September I will start with my Album! I already
sat in the studio for 2 weeks! I engineered new soundsr and made new drums!
Also I bought newplugins and so on! Just to work on my samplelibrary and new sounds! The plan is
to really start producing again in September. H: So we can look forward to super awesome new tracks?
M: As i said those 7 tunes are forthcoming till mid of october
I have some collaboration in sight with some artists from uk and
next year there will be an album. Thats the plan!
H: What are your next Gigs except for tomorrow?
Yeah tomorrow in Lienz! Next week croatia at the Outlook Festivall! H: Also our whole crew will be there!
M: Yeah let's drink some beers there! its going to be crazy! A week after this
there is a party in Vienna where i play b2b with Emperor. And then there are some things in Italy and England!
So from September there will always be 2 bookings on the weekend and in the second week of October
the Australia tour starts! I'm playing 7 Gigs in 2 weeks in Australia.
I really look forward to this! H: I can believe that! M: So my schedule is totally full till December
Also New years eve is booked already! So it's okay! H: super!
Enough to do!! So we can be happy to have him here for tomorrow,
Because it looks like he is really busy!. M: Easy! H:Thank you very much! M: I say thank you!! Was really cool!
Hopefully the party will be as good as the interview!! H: You can look forward, its going to be great!
Big up Mefjus! ciao! Hamma B Bye bye!
YO! Now we will eat here on the mountain some schlipfkrapfen! Mefjus has never
eaten those befor! It's a speciality from easttyrol! M:I'm looking forward!
H: We also have for the first time our show SubTv in our rehearsal room! Mefjus is the first Dj, who will record a Mixtape!
Some friends of us came extra from vienna with their video equipment!
I hope you are looking forward to this! M: Yeeah totally! Its been ages since
I recorded my last studio mix! Thats why its also good for me!!

H: we are also very stoked about it! May we will drink some Schnaps as well!! M: save!!!
