In environmental news, United Kingdom researchers find sustainability of straw bale houses.
Dr. Pete Walker, Professor at the Centre for Innovative Construction Materials at the University
of Bath, and colleagues assessed the eco-friendly two-story BaleHaus@Bath structure. It was
determined that the building, which was inaugurated a year ago, could withstand winds of up to
120 miles per hour (or more than 193 kilometers per hour). Built by ModCell, the frame of
the house is formed by prefabricated panels filled with straw bales. The crop used to
make the straw can be sourced locally, and absorbs carbon dioxide when growing. Kudos,
ModCell, Dr. Pete Walker and fellow researchers, for helping us to realize this green material’s
vast potential. May innovative eco-technologies go hand in hand with the planet-protecting
vegan diet for a viable and vibrant future for our Earth
