The IOC evaluation committee continued their four-day site visit to Madrid on Wednesday
(March 20th), with a trip to see the venue for Golf, Archery, Equestrianism and Modern
Pentathlon.
Golf will feature for the first time at Rio 2016, and with a course designed by the late
golf legend Seve Ballesteros, Madrid is in a strong position to impress the committee.
The Spanish capital is one of a three-city shortlist to host the 2020 Olympics, alongside
Tokyo, Japan and Istanbul, Turkey.
The 14-person evaluation committee, chaired by IOC Vice-President Sir Craig Reedie, has
already visited Tokyo and will travel to Istanbul next week.
It is the third Olympics in a row that Madrid has bid for (and fourth overall), having lost
out to London for the 2012 Games and Rio de Janeiro for 2016.
The full International Olympic Committee will select the host city in Buenos Aires, Argentina
on September 7th.
