Look, America’s economy has been propelled by immigrants for hundreds of years. And,
look, if you look at America’s fastest moving technology companies today there often times
are immigrant founders behind it. Think about Google, son of a Russian immigrant, think
about Paypal, Russian immigrant, think about Yahoo, son of a Chinese immigrant. If you
think about company after company after company is founded by people who are immigrants themselves
or one generation removed from having come to the United States. This has been the case
for literally hundreds of years and to the extent that the United States is going to
continue to be a home for entrepreneurship, a home for imagining the industries and businesses
of the future, it’s going to be because talented people from around the world have
come to the United States in part start companies or come, frankly, because of our freedoms
and because it’s an environment that lends itself to being able to start a company even
if you come from nothing.
